Hello HD...
I have no wagers on this market.
But I do have 20+ years experience in the airline industry and have been involved, personally and professhionally in multiple airline mergers, acquisitions, marketing linkages and dissolutions of ties between airlines, these are my points of reference.
Although I infer that the original author was speculating between a couple of potential merger partners for Delta; Northwest and United Airlines... the exact wording of the short question has lent itself to a variety of considerations. My personal opinion is that to settle for a yes there will need to be a suspension of stock trading by either Delta or Northwest Airlines stock prior to 12:01am on July 1st. United+Delta will not happen during the month of June.
Although many airline mergers are imagined, some are announced, less actually occur; various work groups and Congressional oversight have the ability, and history has proven, to disrupt this process.
Perhaps a better, more precise way to create these kinds of questions would be to say something like: "Announcement from boards of airlines X & Y w/ intent 2 merge within a 24 hours period by 7/1/08?" or "Will stocks of airline X or Y no longer be sold due to merger by 7/1/08?".
Those are my thoughts.

Hi everyone, like Lesley says, wow - there are some great ideas here, thank you all for suggesting them. We are really excited about putting together the Hubdub reward structure that includes levels and profile goodies. We'll be starting to take feedback on that soon - and in it we definitely want to reward all your Hubdubbing efforts and community participation, not just your cold hard virtual cash. The Hall of Fame is probably something that can come after that, once we've been established for longer (as a number of you suggest) but it is a fantastic concept.

Wow, I'm so impressed with all these ideas guys. There are some super ones. I personally (NOT an official response!) think this sort of thing would work brilliantly as a wiki. And I'll certainly speak to the team about it.
We're always so impressed with the amount of time and effort dedicated Hubdubbers put into the site, and we definitely want to have some way of showing their brilliance, other than pure hard (fake) cash!
It's all fantastic food for thought, and we should be able to focus time on it during the 2nd half of this year.
Thanks, and keep the ideas flowing!!
Lesley.

I like this idea. But I was thinking that rather than just being an extension of the leaderboards or the badges/awards, it could be a little like the Guinness Book of Records. So it's not just a list of names, but questions as well. Spitzer would be there, the top 5 or 10 activity questions, the most creative question, even a wall of shame for the satyaki/blueseamiamis of this world. It would function as a best-of-Hubdub section, and should be as interesting as possible (it might be a great introduction to the joys of HubAddiction)

Great comments all!
I concur, a year under our belts would likely be a minimum amount of time before making a declaration about a Hall of Fame status of any kind.
Also, I'm thinking that this could be a vehicle to improve and refine the site and make it even better than it already is... and I already think it's great!
Here is an idea that I'd like to throw against the wall to get opinions about...
Somewhere within the "About" information on this site could be a description of the kinds of good things that result on this site, news prediction yes, but even deeper than that, a rippling kind of entertainment and education that is not easily duplicated by people just ingesting news as individuals. Further, an explanation could include some of the things that as a community we value, such as the fast acquisitiion of knowledge, the ability to learn about other people, places, events in a variety of contexts, courtesy for each other but still vibrant communications, you know all the good things about getting together with your friends over a pint to try and speculate on future news events, just online.
Then, assuming some kind of minimal consensus about what we all value, what if there was a forum that members could, from time to time, maybe quarterly?... Nominate another HDer to a Hall of Fame status, then the admins or maybe the whole community to vote up or down for inclusion and the honor could be held for a while.
To keep it from getting out of hand I'd like to suggest that a "cost" be associated with nomination, say either $500HD or 0.001% of a person's net worth, just to keep the nominations serious.
Personally, if we had such an idea the kinds of things that I'D like to see as potential reasons to nominate would be things like:
1.) Creativity in marketplace creation.
2.) Courtesy in communications.
3.) Timeliness of replies.
4.) Low ratio of voided questions.
5.) Recognition of unusual, non-standard perspectives.
6.) Good grammar and prose.
7.) Humor
8.) Ability to be succient.
9.) Broad range of proficiency, ex. not just sports or not just stock mkts.
10.) Consideration for the sheer volume of wagering that a HDer had stimulated by their created questions.
11.) Above average participation in the site.
12.) # of referred new members.
Please let me know what you think!
