my new username changed back to the old one all of a sudden

i've changed my twitter acoount username this morning, And it worked untill this afternoon, but when I'm online toninght, my username changed back to my old one all of a sudden. I've tried to re-changed it, but it said my new username (which i picked this morning) has already taken. What happened? Why can't I get my new username back?
