Replying to my own question with more information. Go to http://help.twitter.com/forums/10713/.... You must change your password, but before you do, you have to stop any mobile or desktop third-party versions of Twitter from trying to update since they will be using your old password and will cause the system to lock you out. Twitter has no fundamental response to having accounts get hacked in the first place, but once an account has been hacked, you basically have to stop using it for a while and use one web browser to change your password to keep it from happening again.

    Spot Report: Newseum, Washington, DC
I didn't check it thoroughly but this spot looks like it's misplaced. If not misplaced, then it needs to be increased in radius since the museum is big enough that right now you can't check in from some parts of the museum. http://gowalla.com/spots/12794

Someone has hijacked my account to DM phishing messages to my followers.
How can I stop this? I don't want to report my own account as spam, but the DMs don't show up in my DM log and they appear as coming from my account, so the phisher is hidden.

A comment on the problem "Gowalla Icons Look Bad in Facebook News Feed" in Gowalla:

    Stewart Alsop
It's in the attached image. The Gowalla icons are 2-3 times as big as even my Alamofire picture right next to them. This was taken on a Mac using Firefox. But shows up the same on PCs with Firefox. It's a function of how the icons are rendered on the other side of the link from Gowalla through Facebook Connect... – Stewart Alsop, on September 03, 2009 03:52

Gowalla Icons Look Bad in Facebook News Feed
In context, Gowalla icons don't look good on Facebook. Two of my friends have reported that they think the icons just look shabby when they appear in the Facebook news feed. One even said they would hide the Gowalla feed to avoid seeing them.

I think they are reacting to the size of the icons in Facebook; they just look clunky compared to the native icons from the gift store or for people. See this image to see the difference.

    Spot Report: De Vargas Center
The spot called "De Vargas Center" is not located correctly. (In fact, it shows up in a cemetery across the street.) If the spot I created called "Sunflower Market @ DeVargas" is located correctly, that's approximately where the whole shopping mall (which is what De Vargas Center is) should be located.

    Smell You Later notices?
Are users notified if you delete them from your friend list? (This needs to be explicit on the manage-friend page.)

    Fix this spot
Spot Report: The spot "Muddy Waters" in New London, CT was misplaced and should be deleted. I created one called Muddy Waters Cafe in the right place (don't create spots before Gowalla has found the GPS!); sure would be nice to move the Mockingbird from the bad one to the good, not that too many in New London know what Gowalla is!

    Spot report: Santa Barbara
Oops! I've been busy seeding some spots in Santa Barbara, CA. But I put two spots near each other because I pulled the trigger too fast on the first one. Can you remove the spot named "Paseo Nuevo" and just leave the spot named "Paseo Nuevo Crossroads"?

Stewart Alsop replied on May 24, 2009 17:44 to the question "how do you check in?" in Gowalla:

    Stewart Alsop
it should be automatic. The spot (in the Spot list) should tell you that "You Are There" and when you tap on the spot, it will present you with a red "Check In!" box in the bottom right corner, flashing. Tap on that and you will be checked in. Then figure out surveying, swapping, and collecting icons!

    New splash screen, please!
I wish the splash screen said something else besides: "Gowalla is best played outdoors with a clear view of the sky." There should be some of those beautiful icons. It should show some of that Gowalla attitude. It should not tell me what I already know after the first 2-3 times using it!

    Can't update to 12.1.7
This is the error message: "You cannot install Office 2008 12.1.7 Update on this volume. A version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume."

I did everything I was told to at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968694, which is the official description of the prerequisites for installing the update. MacOS is 10.5.7. Latest Mac Office is 12.1.5.

I guess I will have to use AppZapper to remove Entourage but I'm worried it will remove all of Office and I'm not at home to re-install from a CD.

    Stewart Alsop
I agree with Lennart, though. Gowalla should seed the early users with icons so that we can plant them at spots and make it easier to get things going by providing better incentives for playing. I have visited 64 spots and created a bunch but I don't get enough icons to survey the ones I create.

Spot report: "Stairs to Coit Tower" in San Francisco
    http://gowalla.com/spots/12343

Is actually not stairs at all since it is at the corner of Genoa and Filbert and a block from any stairs. It should be relabeled, probably something like "Garfield Elementary School" which is at the intersection, well below Coit Tower. The reason I say this is that there are two stairs that are explicitly labeled and used as stairs to get to Coit Tower, the Filbert Stairs and the Greenwich Stairs, and those stairs are on the other side of Coit Tower. So it's really confusing to have this spot labeled "Stairs To Coit Tower" when the real stairs are elsewhere and this spot isn't actually located on stairs.

Can you use Seesmic from two computers at once?
I ask because Twitter is updating from both computers, but Facebook is not. It is updating on one computer and not on the other. No error reported for the Facebook login, but nothing shows up in Seesmic Desktop

    Stewart Alsop
I just heard that the real BayToBreakers race is in two weeks, on May 17. It would be a really cool publicity thing if you could create spots for each of the check-ins on the race and then offer free iPhones to the first 20 or 100 "runners" to finish the trip on Gowalla (since they would need to do it IRL too). In fact, you could offer a white, custom iPhone personally signed by Josh Williams to the first naked runner with a shopping cart!
