Jonathan Hitchcock replied on December 02, 2009 11:18 to the question "Does yola support the If-Modified-Since HTTP header" in Yola:
Hi Maria,
At Yola, we try our best to make sure your site's SEO is as finely tuned as we can manage. We set the If-Modified-Since HTTP header on all static content (resources, images, and so on) because we can be sure when they were modified, and can thus inform Google of the correct timestamps. However, your pages are dynamic - they often have widgets and integration with third-party sites that would change their content without you having to republish them. As such, it would hurt your site's SEO if we used the If-Modified-Since header to tell Google that they had not been changed when they might have been. Instead, we mark the page as fresh, so that it gets recrawled regularly.
The point is, we take care of all this server-side for you, so you don't need to worry about it :)

That's exactly what it means, Ernst :)
By the way, in future, if you have questions like this, it might be better to start a new thread, instead of tagging them onto the bottom of this one. That way, everybody else will be able to get the benefit of your questions, instead of having to look down here. If you want to do this, just go to the front page of our forums, and start typing into the text box at the top!

A comment on the problem "CAN'T LOAD WEB PAGE SO I CAN EDIT" in Yola:
Hi Ernst,
Your sites are safe from viruses with Yola - all the published sites are generated by our sitebuilder, which ensures that they are virus- and malware-free. In addition, they are hosted on our secure servers, which we take great pains to maintain and keep safe from malicious software.
I hope this answers your question.

Jonathan Hitchcock replied on November 17, 2009 14:45 to the question "Out of control HTML Editor Widget!" in Yola:
Hi Rob.
Lee is correct - the widget will fix any broken HTML that you paste into it. In your case, you are putting a semicolon where there should be no semicolon. The text you seem to be pasting in is:
<a href="somewhere" onmouseover="ddrivetip('Visit the Bower')"; onmouseout="hideddrivetip()">
HTML does not permit semicolons (or anything else) appearing randomly in the middle of tags. The usual way to deal with things that appear where attributes are supposed to be is to turn them into attributes by giving them a value. So, if you put the word 'thing' in there by itself:
<a thing href="somewhere">
It would be converted to an attribute like so:
<a thing="" href="somewhere">
Try it!
So, to answer your original question - fix the HTML you are pasting in, and the widget won't have to try to fix it for you!
Jonathan Hitchcock replied on November 11, 2009 15:38 to the question "What will happen my webmail when I move my domain to Yola?" in Yola:
Hi!
When you point your domain to Yola, the domain records that you change are called the "A" records. These "A" records are the ones that tell web-browsers where to find pages on a domain.
However, email is governed by a different type of domain record. When you send email, the servers check the "MX" domain records to find out where to send it.
In other words, if you change the "A" records to point to Yola, but leave the "MX" records as they were, your email will carry on working as before, but your websites will now be found on Yola!
I hope this answers your question?
Jonathan Hitchcock replied on November 06, 2009 12:30 to the question "How do i change the catagory of my website from "none"?" in Yola:
Hi Ryan,
As you say, it is a corporate firewall that is blocking some of your users from viewing your site. These firewalls have their own databases which basically categorize all sites into different types ("marketing", "porn", "allowed", "none", etc). If you want to change what category the firewall thinks your site is in, you will need to speak to the administrators of the firewall. However, these big corporates are notoriously unyielding - if they block sites that don't even have a category, they are probably unlikely to listen to you.
Also bear in mind that this will only affect the users of your site who are behind the firewall - everybody else on the internet will still be able to see your site perfectly fine. These firewalls usually exist in workplaces where they wish to restrict what people look at during working hours, and it's not really our place to tell them to change that. When your users go home, they should be able to get to your site just fine :)

Boomer: there are actually four laws. The zero'th one is more important than the other three, and states that a robot must act in the interests of all humanity, not just individuals. And, yes, when we signed up Sanja, we were clearly following the zero'th law :) – Jonathan Hitchcock, on November 05, 2009 20:57-

A comment on the question "My Site Won't Republish After The Yola Editor Crashed" in Yola:
Hi Matt,
We do have our own forwarding system for Yola - your site can have multiple domains attached to it, and they will all forward to your primary domain. For example, if you go to http://yola.tv/ (which is itself a Yola-hosted site), it will forward you to http://www.yola.tv/
The problem is, in order for us to forward your domain, your domain needs to point to our servers. While your "www.ebookxtreme.com" domain does point to our hosting, server, the main domain "ebookxtreme.com" does not: it has two DNS records which point to 209.249.222.75 and 209.249.222.76, which are not Yola servers.
In order to take advantage of Yola's forwarding, please change the DNS records for your main "ebookxtreme.com" domain so that it points to our hosting server (set the IP to 208.75.208.172). Once you've done this, it should automatically forward to www.ebookxtreme.com.

Jonathan Hitchcock replied on April 15, 2009 12:09 to the question "What is our site's max bandwidth" in Yola:
Hi Shaq,
We do not impose any specific bandwidth limit on sites hosted by Yola, although obviously there is a limit on the total amount of bandwidth that our servers can use at any one time.
We constantly monitor the bandwidth which our sites consume, and try to ensure that we have enough available in advance of the usage that our users will require.
However, we have previously had denial of service attacks conducted against us, and these can cause problems with the amount of bandwidth we have available, but we work closely with our hosting provider to guard against incidents like these, and to maintain a high level of service.
I hope this helps.
