A comment on the question "My New Follower Has a Protected Profile" in Twitter:
it used to be automatic. Now it's not. I find that... disturbing. – Vicki, on September 20, 2008 04:50
Vicki asked a question in Twitter on September 16, 2008 15:47:
My New Follower Has a Protected ProfileI'm being followed by people who protect their updates. When that happens, I can't see anything about this person.
This is disturbing. I want to know aa little bit about the person following me. I can Direct Message them but cannot read their tweets.
My inclination is to block immediately.
I think there should be a period of time during which I can see what they write. If they want to follow me, they should be a little more open about who they are!

it looks like the developers have finally decided to address this problem

Crystal - 8 months ago, that was a bad design (therefore, a design bug).
I am happy to see that the development team has finally addressed this bug:

A comment on the question "What happens if I hit a Twitter limit?" in Twitter:
Thomas - It's not up to you to dictate someone else's follow policy. The number of people someone follows has been correlated to "legitimacy" but it doesn't define legitimacy. In fact, I can pretty much guarantee that "spammers" will stop following thousands now and will take great care to fly under the new limits.
Jason Calcanis (NOT a spammer) was following thousands of people. I thought that was nuts but hey, it's none of my business. Chris Brogan is following 10,000. Robert Scoble is following 21,000. Why should any of this matter? Maybe they do it to alow those people to DM them? Maybe they're creating their own "public timeline".
It's None of Our Business!
Following to Follower ratio is an _indicator_ of potential "spamminess". It's not even the best indicator. CONTENT is what determines whether someone is really a contributor. This is why arbitrary limits are so wrong. – Vicki, on July 29, 2008 02:37

mdy - no, it really DID work corredctly for a while there. I know because I asked for this feature and I was sooooooooo hapy when it was put in. And then to have it disappear again. You can imagine my frustration.
I could WRITE this as a very simple get call.
> fwiw, I know they're considering the possibility of letting third-party apps set the reply-to-tweet-id via the API so that third-party apps can link to tweets correctly. However, this enhancement is currently listed as low-priority,
Twitter! Make this a big priority. If I can envision how to code it in about 20 minutes, I can't see it as being difficult. And right now, conversation is broken and I can't use it.
I'm begging you, please!

Twitterfeed can't parse my TWitter friends_timeline RSSI'm trying to filter (retweet) some of my friends timeline back into my twitterstream using twitterfeed.
The RSS is correct but twitterfreed says "cannot parse".

I know Twitter now requires password to access a friends_timeline but this is my friends_timeline, so I've provided my id and password.

Btw, how does *anyone* aside from the Twitter employees know that Ariel didn't just fake this whole thing to attract attention to her or her blog? Her blog is a little more racy and NSFW, so why not up her hits? Twitter knows who this person is via IP address (it was easy enough for me to find the profile) and based on their TOS, the profile could have been deleted solely for the many spam tweets (e.g. free ringtones, pharma ads, etc) I'm not like out to get Ariel or anything and I've had my own stalker or ten in my internet life, but it would be easy enough to fakeastalker. I don't always believe the hype. Besides, the profile has 750 people following it. I am a newb and recognized a few names. What does that say about the community if they are following such lame and disgusting tweets? I hate e-stalking. But if you give a story/stalker attention, they love it. I would have just kept after Twitter, but not been so public about it. But that's just my style - I don't feed trolls anymore. P.S. As far as an employer googling her name and finding the rants, um, have you all *seen* her blog. It's pretty um... sexual? I am not a prude, but an employer can see that the rants are stupid and harassing, but what will they think about her blog?
Vicki asked a question in twitterfeed on May 23, 2008 14:59:
some feeds duplicate contentI'm confused. We're feeding a filtered friends_timeline from one Twitter user to another. Some (not all) of the messages are duplicated The message isn't _fed_ twice. The message text is duplicated in one feed.
example:
nuddlegg: Vicki, thanks for this tricky TWiki twitter trick :): nuddlegg: Vicki, thanks for this tri.. http://tinyurl.com/4j48rq
One 52 character message, repeated, with a tinyurl (which if you follow you'll see the original)
This doesn't happen every time and it's really confusing me.
Here's a screenshot of the twitterfeed configuration: http://screencast.com/t/y4M7HZqAhxQ
we're posting to @twikifriends. The friends_timeline comes from @twikiorg.
Vicki reported a problem in Twitter on December 30, 2007 05:20:
We need a "reply to this Tweet" buttonToo often, Twitter's guess at how to link a reply to a Tweet is just plaain wrong. If the Twitterer has posted again , more recently, the link is misplaced. We need a "reply to this Tweet" button right there on the Twitter screen!
Twitter is becoming a big conversation but the conversations aren't linked up properly!
