Vincent Wright asked a question in Google on November 21, 2009 19:54:
Don't Be Evil, Google! Gimme My Blog Back! Come Out And DEFEND YOURSELF YOU BIG GIANT BULLY! :-)Ok, Dear Google,,
If I've done something wrong with my blog, here's your chance to let the public know precisely what I've done. Tell 'em! I can take it!
If, on the other hand, I've done nothing wrong with my blog, "Don't Be Evil"*, Google! Gimme my blog back! :-)
I started an informal blog more than four years ago, calling it "The Linkedin Business Discussion Index". I started it before I knew that there were any "RULES" of blogging. Mainly I played with blogging. Never made a single, solitary penny from it. Never intended to make money from it. It was set up primarily as a means of sharing Linkedin-centric posts via a blog format for members of My Linkedin Power Forum (now at www.MyVirtualPowerForum.com) Period.
I eventually decided to rename the blog to "Social Media Consortium", thus, yielding the blogspot URL: http://SocialMediaConsortium.blogspot... (with a 301 redirect from www.SocialMediaConsortium.com)
For some unknown reason, and with no easy way of getting feedback from either Google, Blogger, or Blogspot, you've taken down my site, put it back up in a crippled state where I could no longer publish from it, and, yep, taken it down again. This time apparently, irretrievably so.
If "Don't Be Evil" is still your informal mission statement and still has any real meaning to it, gimme my blog back - OR - at least show a modicum of professional courtesy and tell me what was wrong with my blog so that I can explain it to the thousands of people who were made aware of that blog over the past 4+ years..
A letter will do.
An email will do.
A hint, a clue, ANYTHING type of communication about why you took my blog down WOULD DO!
And, by the way, if I'm so evil as a blogger, why take down just one of my blogs and not the other 99 blogs I've created on Blogspot?
So, either I'm an evil blogger or YOU'VE MADE A MISTAKE!
As social media experts in the know would probably advise, I know that you don't need my blog - - - heck, I don't need it either - - - heck, I don't even need "Google" or any of its sub-brands, either - especially since I've never made ANY money off of using them.
But, doing the right thing shouldn't be done just because of money. Doing the right thing is the right thing to do for its own sake. Especially for those who don't want to be evil, dear Google.
So, either prove that I've intentionally done something wrong or gimme my blog back! Pretty please, Google? Don't be evil, man! That's so beneath you and so doggone undignified and boring...;
Gimme my blog back baby! :-)

Thanks, and Keep STRONG!!

A comment on the problem "Fully Removing Contents of Banned Spammers" in Ning:
Her comment spam still shows up when I visit the profile listed in my original message above. It could be due to your not being a member??? Or it could be a corrupted cookie for Ning??? (But, if the latter were the case, why are members of my community still reporting they see her comment on their profile? Finally, it may be that you don't see it because you're not a member of MyLinkingPowerForum? – Vincent Wright, on July 19, 2009 00:50
Vincent Wright reported a problem in Ning on July 18, 2009 16:44:
Fully Removing Contents of Banned SpammersSpammers are destroying the enjoyment of Ning with leftover profile comments from spammers such as "Ada Clements" who, though she's been banned from MyLinkingPowerForum.ning.com, hundreds of her profile comments still litter the pages of our members.
For example, if you click her profile, it shows she's been banned from MyLinkingPowerForum.ning.com: http://mylinkingpowerforum.ning.com/p...
However, if you click on a member profile such as this one, http://mylinkingpowerforum.ning.com/p... , you'll see that members are unable to remove her leftover spam comments.
This problem helps neither our members nor the spammers since clicking on their profile shows nothing...
After having dealt with a number of spambots like the "Ada Clements" spambot, MyLinkingPowerForum.ning.com is now a fully moderated forum - meaning that all memberships require moderator approval.
Yet, the key issue remains: Why doesn't Ning remove ALL matter associated with a banned member's profile?
Please advise.
Thanks,
Vincent Wright

Vincent Wright asked a question in Go Daddy on May 12, 2009 16:40:
If GoDaddy Takes Money Out Of My Account, Why Shouldn't They Pay Interest While They Have My Money?Seeking a refund from GoDaddy after they 1.) changed the autorenewal on my account 2.) took money - without my approval @GoDaddyGuy #GoDaddy
FYI:
1. I was told that it would take 5 days to refund the money which was electronically removed from my account.
2. My question is: WHY??
3. Why does money collected from GoDaddy members have to go into *LIMBO* for 5 days - without our being able to get interest?
4. The money gets taken out of our accounts, sits somewhere for 5 days, earns interest for 5 days so, why shouldn't that interest belong to us, the GoDaddy members whose money was taken out of our accounts for services which we did not explicitly authorize?
5. See this question on Twitter at: http://twitter.com/VincentWright/stat...

Hi, Sean,
Not sure why auto-copy wasn't working but, tried all the standard things including double clicking the URL and Ctrl+C. I was in Firefox 2.0.0.16 on Windows XP
Bottom line: I was eventually able to get the API key copied - "all's right with the world".
Thanks, and Keep STRONG, Sean!!

Vincent Wright reported a problem in Ping.fm on November 28, 2008 15:53:
Ping.gm application key for Facebook NOT copying to clipboard1. Followed the steps to add Ping.fm app to Facebook.
2. Used the "Click here to get your application key. " to get application key
3. Tried to highlight and grab application key but, of course, Ping.fm is set up to protect against that technique. Instead, Ping.fm instructs us to "Click your application key to copy it to the clipboard. "
4. However, in clicking the application key, it is NOT picked up to the clipboard - thus, the Facebook app is stuck in limbo...
A comment on the praise "Ooops!...Could This Be TRUE??? Could Linkedin Have Been RIGHT About The 50 Groups Limit?????" in LinkedIn:
Christopher, thanks kindly for your very useful response. (It appears that I may have been off of LInkedin longer than I thought - I hadn't seen the feature for controlling group messages.) – Vincent Wright, on November 14, 2008 18:50
Vincent Wright gave praise in LinkedIn on November 13, 2008 23:00:
Ooops!...Could This Be TRUE??? Could Linkedin Have Been RIGHT About The 50 Groups Limit?????Whether it's a person, a concept, an incorporeal entity, or a corporation, when we get upset with them, one of the hardest possible things for us to do is to admit they may have been right about ANY issue.
Of course, acquiescing to one out of a myriad of issues doesn't mean that you'd have to blanketly acquiesce to all differences but, um, how do I say this - without inviting countless "I told you so's"?
So, as carefully as I can state a change in opinion about one matter, here goes...
After being back on Linkedin for a couple of months after my voluntary 90-day hiatus, I started to slowly join a few Linkedin groups. (What can I say, I'm a groupie. We'll just have to live with that...)
BUT, as I started to join those groups, Linkedin implemented its discussion feature for Linkedin Groups.
Now, before I left Linkedin, I'd created just under 100 groups of my own with total memberships of somewhere between 45-65,000. Further to my own groups, I have no earthly idea how many hundreds of other groups I'd joined! But, it was LOTS! Hundreds, for sure...
I'm now in just 32 groups, including 4 or 5 I've created.
But now with the discussions feature added, even with my belonging to just 32 groups, the volume of email is QUITE PRONOUNCED! (I clock about 1,200 messages every day even without messages from Linkedin Groups.)
That means that if 32 groups generated a VERY NOTICEABLE INCREASE in my email message load, think about what being in 50 groups would do. And just IMAGINE what being in FIVE HUNDRED Linkedin groups would do to your email volume. (Of course, some of it consists of repeat email messages from cross-postings on different groups within the same professional discipline.)
So, even though I kind of liked all those groups I used to own and belong to, I don't think I would have wanted 10, 20, or even 50 times more email messages than I'm currently getting from Linkedin Groups...
Thus, though the implementation wasn't necessarily the best, it appears that Linkedin may have been correct in limiting members to 50 groups - at least in terms of this measure. (I'm fully aware that Facebook has a group limit of 200 and that Yahoo Groups has no limit...)
How are you handling the increase in messages from Linkedin Groups?

Vicki,
With unemployment being what it is and what it's likely to be in 2009, this is a great suggestion. However, I would encourage *you* to take the initiative to start the group. Should you do so, please feel free to use my groups to market your group for job seekers.
As a reminder: I do have a group called Linking Job Seekers and a Twitter groups called "Job Seekers" (@JobSeekers)
