Oh goodness, Monique, I hope you're still out there. I've done all of this...
1) Drag and drop a file widget from the sidebar on the right onto your page.
2) Browse for your PDF file and upload it.
3) When you click "ok" a link to your file will automatically be created.
To test that it is working, save and preview your page. You should be able to click on the link to view or download the file.
... but cannot view or download the file. Any help?-

I am glad you were able to paste. I think I figured out what you meant by the "heading" - those were default tags that needed to be manually deleted by the user each time. They were an irritation and were causing people to paste code incorrectly. So we have removed them. You should only see the empty dialog box now and be able to paste your code. Sorry about the misunderstanding. – Monique, on August 05, 2008 08:26

Sorted, many thanks. Still no heading comes up, but I was able to paste in the html. – Wesbroom, on August 05, 2008 08:12

If the problem is pasting, you could try using the "Edit" menu of your browser. Go Edit-Paste. Or use short cut keys: "Cntrl-V" for paste. If that does not help, please do the following:
Log into your site, click on the "help" menu, click on "report bug" fill in the form and send it to us. We will try to help you get it working from there. – Monique, on August 04, 2008 13:19

I've tried again, from a different computer. Again, when I add the html widget it comes up with no heading included. Again, I cannot paste the html into the panel so I've tried painstakingly copying it in manually. What comes up is that it can't be displayed. – Wesbroom, on August 04, 2008 08:12

Hi, Ruth, I'm using IE on Windows XP. It was fine when I set up the site (http://wesbroom.synthasite.com) and it's only today that the widget doesn't work. The html is a bit too complicated to try to type it out myself though I might have to resort to that. I'll try from work tomorrow. – Wesbroom, on August 03, 2008 10:53

Wesbroom asked a question in SynthaSite on August 03, 2008 07:09:
HTML doesn't workI have a Zoho Creator database which I embedded in my website with no problems. Then I made the database private without realising the consequences. So I've made it public again. But now, trying to embed it in the site again, I find that I can't. When I add the html section to the page it comes up without any of the heading it has always had in the past. And I can't paste the html into it, even if I copy the script to somwhere else and try to paste it from there. Is there something wrong with the html widget?

Well, I'll have to feel foolish along with you, since it wasn't a solution I suggested either :) – Ruth, on July 25, 2008 14:25

Feeling very foolish, I have discovered that if I create the table in a Word document I can then copy and paste it into a text box. Any smilies for apologetic expression? – Wesbroom, on July 25, 2008 10:17

Hi Wesbroom,
You can insert a table by using one of our widgets such as Widget Box or Google Gadgets. Drag and drop one of these widgets onto your page then click on the link in the dialogue box to be taken to either Google Gadgets or Widget Box.
In their website search box search for table. Find one that you like, customise it, get the code and paste that code back into the dialogue box back in SynthaSite and click on ok.
Alternatively you could add a spreadsheet to your site.
Create your spreadsheet in Excel and save it to your desktop and then add it as follows:
1) Drag and drop a File widget onto your page
2) Browse your desktop for your spreadsheet file and upload it
3) Click "ok" and a download link to your website will automatically be created.
To test that the link is working, save and preview your page.
There is a way to add spreadsheets with Google Docs so that it's displayed on the page:
1) create or upload your spreadsheet to Google Docs
2) publish the spreadsheet in Google Docs, you should get a toolbar opening on the right-hand side, click on 'More publishing options'
3) a dialogue box will open, change the File Format to 'HTML to embed in webpage', choose the rest of the options and generate URL
4) copy the code provided
5) go back to your SynthaSite, drag and drop an HTML widget onto the page and paste the code over the existing code and press OK!

Ok, here is something else you can try. Your visitors will need the necessary plugin, however.
1) Upload your PDF file to the file managed
2) Drag and drop an HTML widget onto your page
3) Delete the default text in the HTML editor dialog.
4) Paste the following tag:
<!-- <embed width="600" height="400" src="resources/test.pdf"> -->
5) replace test.pdf with the exact filename of your file.
NB: Leave out the < !-- and the -- >, I only add those to stop Get Satisfaction from trying to interpret the code.
Below is a screenshot of the code as it should appear in the HTML editor.
I hope this works for you!

Inserting a tableIs there a way of inserting a table into a piece of text?
A comment on the question "Can I insert a pdf document?" in SynthaSite:
Thanks, Monique, but what I wanted to be able to do was insert the document itself rather than a link to it. – Wesbroom, on July 24, 2008 18:18
