Change from Internal Network to External InternetI run a Cablecast system with 2 seats of Carousel, using a Leightronix Pro16 for device control and routing, running 4 playout streams with a VS4 server. While these devices talk to each other via an in-house network, none have an external IP address.
I want to make Cablecast/Carousel accessible from the Internet. What do I need to do?
Do I need to get another DSL phone line and fixed IP address?
Can I alternate between control via internal network and external Internet?

I agree totally with this. The most useful new function you could build into Cablecast would be a "logger" function, which list what events took place at what times. It would really help in determining a cause of failure. (There was such a function in my old Pro16 Leightronix).
The other big thing would be a way to TRIM ingested clips, so that one clip could immediately follow another, like broadcast TV. There IS a way to do it, as pricier systems offer this feature!

Have you checked to see that the video input is not double-terminated? Make sure it isn't split with a Y or T connector! – WHCA, on January 15, 2009 16:46

IE6 is what came with the computer. Can I download it? – WHCA, on November 21, 2008 02:00

Let me try to clarify a bit: It looks like all the elements of the page are there, it is just that some of them appear superimposed on top of others.
BTW, is there an easy way for me to do a screen shot? – WHCA, on November 20, 2008 21:12

No. I can't get a cursor in the box, even if I click within it. It looks like the top of the box is missing. – WHCA, on November 20, 2008 21:10

I couldn't reply in the box at the bottom of the page. I had to click Add A Comment.
I don't know how to post a screenshot.
It is Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_qfe.0808 14-1242
Running on Windows XP (pro, I think), via DSL
For example, above, the Reply To box has 4 emoticons over it. "The 1 Person has" box has Add an Image over it.
The Reply to box at the bottom is missing its top, and I can't get the cursor into it. – WHCA, on November 20, 2008 19:59

Problem Viewing This ForumI am having a problem viewing this forum. Sometimes I get white boxes or emoticons superimposed over the text. And when I go to respond, I can't get the cursor to show in the right box. I've tried re-loading the page. Is it my computer, or does this happen to anyone else?

TRMS Helped Me in a CrisisI'm not sure if I've shared this yet...
I run a PEG access center, a one-man operation with a couple of part timers. Back in April, the worst happened: I was incapacitated for several weeks (collapsed lung). Knowing I was due for surgery, I programmed Cablecast on 4 playout streams for 28 days. I also routed the 4 streams to our security DVR, so I could check later to see how playout went.
All programs ran successfully, and virtually end-to-end!!! The only curvball was two simultaneous live Town Meetings, and I was able to talk my part-timers through it. It "looked" like I wasn't absent at all, which made me very happy.
Of course, I had a slew of ingests to do when I got back (actually, 22 days later.)
Thank YOU, TRMS!

Actually, I'm not sure how to send a second stop command. TRMS staff, any recommendations?
Another approach: Try not sending ANY stop command at all! In theory, the DVD player will play to its end, and reset itself. – WHCA, on November 18, 2008 14:22

WHCA replied on October 03, 2008 15:02 to the question "Trimming Programs" in Tightrope Media Systems:
Forgive me if I'm a bit paranoid about installing anything new on my VS4. I just want to make sure I have this right:
I just downloaded MPEG Streamclip 1.2 to a thumb drive. The website says it also requires a Quicktime component, so I also downloaded KL Quicktime Alternative 1.81 to the thumb drive.
So my next step is to plug the thumb drive to my VS4, and install both programs directly onto my VS4 server? Is this correct? Anything I should be alert for?

Trimming ProgramsAs analog ingest into a VS4 is imprecise, I would like to find a means of trimming the in and out points of programs. In a B&H catalog, I see an NLE called NewTek SpeedEdit, which indicates that it can deal with MPEG2 clips. Is there any reason why I can't install this on my VS4, call up a show, do a quick trim, and save it?
