Actually, mine stopped working too, somewhat magically. This is my first foray into the world of Mac's and it turns out all that 'it just works' crap is a load of that. Nonstop challenges.-

i had the same issue.. sharing experience. I have a javelin (8900 i think) and 10.6/snow leopard and am new to a mac and a bit frustrated (EXACTLY as much as a PC in 1998). Anyway... A little different on my device menu:
options -> memory -> had to change auto enable mass storage mode when connected. Then disconnected/reconnected to mac, and magic icon is on desktop (and under devices in this FINDER app im coming to find is windows explorer).
