If this invite issue can't be resolved for me very soon, I need to cancel my account for a refund. A wiki like my 2.0 right now is TOTALLY useless. If you could, please do convert it to a 1.0 so that I can create an invite key. Otherwise, fix the problem or cancel my account. – James, on May 16, 2008 20:38

Gimme WikiStyle, Classic and passwords, and I might even try 2.0 (for something besides forum support). – Guy Fawkes, on April 15, 2008 21:25

Transitioning 2.0 wikis back to 1.0 is something we don't intend to be part of the larger plan for PBwiki. We want to be always moving forward, always being better than the last thing, learning from what we did wrong and what we did right. That a significant amount of our users prefer 1.0 to 2.0 tells us we did some things really good there, and we need to find ways to implement them in 2.0.
We're doing a lot of testing right now on transitions in both directions, and it's a slow, detailed process, which is why we aren't allowing just anyone to change their wiki, we're doing it slowly, with just a few people, and keeping a very close watch for any problems that may occur.
So at some point, we may allow users to change their wikis from 2.0 to 1.0. But eventually, we want everyone on the same page, and that will mean moving everyone to 2.0. And 3.0. And onward.
And back to the original question, we're doing a lot more work on the Invite Key issue - I can't promise it'll work exactly like it does in 1.0, but we're going to try to find the best possible solution, because having large numbers of users is a very significant issue, and we want to get it right.

Hi Newbie, I just wanted to make it clear in my post that some things had changed since Paul last blogged about this issue and we *are* exploring this option. Guy is a prolific poster (and wow, do we appreciate it!) but he's not privy to staff information and developments, so he didn't have the most current info. My apologies. – Rachel Pennig, on April 15, 2008 20:06

Rachel - Is IP whitelisting available on 2.0 wikis? – Guy Fawkes, on April 15, 2008 20:03

Hey jonathangrubb - 1.0 wikis do have IP verification as an access option (It's a premium feature, so you will have to pay for it). If you're interested in adding this to your 1.0 wiki, just contact tom(at)pbwiki(dot)com. He'll help you get set up. Good luck! – Rachel Pennig, on April 15, 2008 20:00

Thanks, newbie, but Rachel is just doing the job she was hired to do, the best way she knows how. Lord knows *I'm* not the most politic person; even my mother gets tired of me sometimes. – Guy Fawkes, on April 15, 2008 19:52

okay I'm gonna pitch my two cents in here hope it isn't to ill received. Although Guy is technically
"not a representative of PBwiki"
The reason that there are help forums like this one is so that users can help users. If you all would like to take over answering all the questions yourselves go ahead, but I don't think our credit is that far in the red yet. Is it?
Even after an official said Guy was wrong another one had to come back and say hey that isn't true he was right at the moment.
I mean ouch If I post an answer that is correct and I am meet with that kind of response I'm gonna be pretty apprehensive to post anything again. Lets just all play nice.

Thanks, Paul. Until such time as that feature has been "enabled", I will modify my responses to state "PBwiki is unable to convert a 2.0 back to 1.0, but reserves the right to enable this feature if it becomes available."
Thanks.

Whynot- don't delete! Once you delete your wiki you won't be able to reuswe the wiki name. Try creating a new 1.0 wiki :) – Rachel Pennig, on April 15, 2008 18:30

Thanks Rachel. I was afraid of that. I will delete this wiki and recreate as 1.0. The population I am working with/for will not likely take the effort to create an account - not a problem, just more time ;-) – whynot88, on April 15, 2008 18:23

Hey everyone. Please note the bold text in this PBwiki blog post by Paul Singh, Rachel's boss, who clearly states, for the record:
Most importantly, when you switch to PBwiki 2.0 you won’t be able to revert back to 1.0.
While he was speaking about people who convert from 1.0 to 2.0, and not specifically about new 2.0 wikis, that quote remains, to date, the only published guidance they have announced related to this issue. Other posters have asked, here in GS, whether they could revert back to 1.0, and their questions were ignored. If PBwiki has new information regarding this issue, they would do well to answer straightforward questions honestly and openly, without resorting to marketspeak about "giving us more control".

thanks rachel! I'd still like to have people edit without any kind of verification beyond IP address, but I guess that makes it too easy to spam. – jonathangrubb, on April 15, 2008 17:35

Hey everyone. Please keep in mind that Guy Fawkes is not a representative of PBwiki and his information is incorrect. We cannot say for certain right now whether or not we will migrate wikis back but we're looking into it and an official PBwiki rep will make an announcement if this becomes a possibility.
