If you found @replies to people you're not following confusing, you could easily switch it of. Why on earth would you want to take that option away and make it the only available setting for all users? You're solving a problem that didn't exist.

For others, like me, these @replies were actually a valuable way to find new tweeps to follow. I think that of the people I now follow, I have discovered at least a third in that way.

You're looking for the (Boolean) 'extensions.checkCompatibility'. If it doesn't exist, create it. Set it to 'false'. A warning though: disabling the compatibility check will not magically make every extension work, it only stops Firefox from checking. Use with care!

Although FF3.1 claims the add-on is incompatible, it seems to work fine for me (running FF3.1b2 on Mac OS X Tiger) after I've disabled the compatibility check (via about:config). (Kids, don't try this at home!)
