Wililam Donnelly replied on February 25, 2009 17:53 to the question "What happened to the books at the end of my list?" in LivingSocial:
Hello Michelle:
Thanks for getting in touch with us regarding this issue!
There is no imposed limit on collection sizes. Some of our leaders have tens of thousands of books in their collections.
That said, could you please send a link to your LivingSocial: Books home page (e.g., http://apps.facebook.com/facebookshel... ; http://books.livingsocial.com/people/...) to feedback@livingsocial.com.
Also, have you been able to add any books since?
Thanks in advance!

Wililam Donnelly replied on February 25, 2009 16:39 to the problem "All Collections blank in iPhone app" in LivingSocial:
Hello Knight:
Thanks for getting in touch with us regarding these issues!
First, regarding the "collection" visibility issue, you should be able to see your various collections now on the iPhone app. If you continue to encounter problems, please let us know.
Second, regarding the "iPhone" interest on the iPhone, this is in the process of being released as a separate iPhone app (for various and sundry reasons). Look for it in the App Store in very near future.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions or encounter any additional issues.
Thanks!

Wililam Donnelly replied on February 13, 2009 19:22 to the question "How do you change the cover on a book in your collection?" in LivingSocial:
Hello All:
Again, apologies for the inconvenience and frustration this issue may have caused you.
When making necessary infrastructure changes that have improved performance and the overall experience for 99% of our users, the "Editions" (a.k.a. pick-your-cover) feature was disabled. Actually re-implementing this seemingly pedestrian feature is a bit more challenging and time-consuming than you would imagine (just take my word for it).
For the 1%, please bear in mind that we are actively looking for ways to re-introduce this feature. Shockingly, we even have an improved "Editions" experience in mind. I could say it will be implemented very, very soon; but we know what happened last time :) So please be patient while we work to get this in place. We will let you know when it's done.
Thanks!

Wililam Donnelly replied on February 12, 2009 19:41 to the question "Get this guy out of my visual basics friend list and let me show my own reviews" in LivingSocial:
Hello worth strokes:
Thanks for getting in touch with us regarding these issues!
Regarding your "Friends" issue, there are two primary ways in which this individual found his way into your "Book Friends" list:
- You and he are Facebook friends, and he had installed the Visual Bookshelf application as well
- If you use the external LivingSocial.com site, invited users using the "Invite" feature, and used your webmail contacts list, it may have found him as an existing LivingSocial user
If you feel that none of these are likely causes as to how this user invaded your "Book Friends" list, please send us the link to your home page (e.g., http://apps.facebook.com/facebookshel...) and his profile page; we will investigate this issue ASAP.
Now, to remove this user from your "Book Friends" list, simply:
- Navigate to your Visual Bookshelf profile page
- Click on the user's image
- Once on the user's profile page, click on the "√ Following" button (illustrated below) to stop following this user

Regarding your "Review/Book box" issue, if I rightly understand your question, a highlighted "Reading now" book is displayed with its corresponding description. To modify what appears in this area:
- Open the Visual Bookshelf application
- Click on the "Settings" link on the right-hand side of the LivingSocial header
- Click on the "Profile" link/subtab
Make changes as you see fit.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions or encounter any additional issues.
Thanks!

Wililam Donnelly replied on February 12, 2009 19:06 to the question "Why can't I remove myself from someone's friendlist on Visual Bookshelf?" in LivingSocial:
Hello Sheri:
Thanks for getting in touch with us regarding this issue!
"Friendships" and "Follow" relationships operate in a Twitter-like fashion on our site and within our applications.
What does that mean?
Adding someone as a "Friend" (or if you are Facebook friends with someone who has added the application already) creates two relationships: you follow them; they follow you. If you decide to stop following them, you opt-out of one side of this relationship. However, this means (as you have observed) that they still follow you.
"Following" someone creates a single relationship: you follow them.
What can I do about this?
Currently, if there are legitimate reasons as to why someone should not be following you, we can remove you from their friends list. Simply send us a link to your home page (e.g., http://books.livingsocial.com/people/...) and a link to their profile page.
In the near future, we are planning on adding more robust "friendship" management features, such as tracking "friends" and "follows" as separate relationships, listing all users "following" you, adding "block" features, etc. No ETA yet as to when this will appear in the product; but we will let you know once it is.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
Thanks!

Hello sripps:
Thanks for getting in touch with us regarding this issue!
The "multiple item delete" feature is in the enhancement queue; so no ETA on when this will make its way into the product.
In the interim, if you would like us to purge your entire collection, please send us a "remove all items in collection" note along with a link to your home page (e.g., http://books.livingsocial.com/people/...) to feedback@livingsocial.com, and we will do so.

Hello matthew:
Thanks for getting in touch with us regarding this issue!
Under the Settings -> Profile page, we allow you to customize your Visual Bookshelf Facebook Wall module (image #1 below) and the Visual Bookshelf box under Facebook Boxes tab (image #2 below). But we do not currently have a way for you to customize the "Books" tab (image #3 below)
If you are having problems customizing either of the first two, please let us know and we assist you as best we can.
Thanks!

Wililam Donnelly replied on January 23, 2009 21:13 to the question "Need to access book info for books I want to read" in LivingSocial:
Hello elp1:
Thanks for getting in touch with us regarding this issue!
If you are an external site user, you can export your collection in CSV (comma separated value) format under the "Manage" page (accessible by clicking the "Manage" link in the LivingSocial header area near the top of the page). The "Export to CSV" link is located underneath the collection area (i.e., at the bottom of the page).
Once downloaded, you can open this file using Excel or the spreadsheet application of your choice, sort by "Status" value, and cut-and-paste or otherwise segregate books that you have marked as "Want to read".
Also, if you have an iPhone, you can download our iPhone application (which you can login to using your external account) and access your collection information from the road.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
Thanks!

Hello Johnny and Harry :
Thanks so much for reporting this problem!
It would be extraordinarily helpful if you could send the following information to feedback [at] livingsocial.com:
[+] On Windows, click Start -> Run; and execute the following two commands:
regedit /e c:\reg1.reg "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main"
regedit /e c:\reg2.reg "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings"
This will let us know what IE settings are in place.
[+] Go to http://www.belarc.com/Programs/adviso... to download and install Belarc Advisor (it is a very small application that shows machine information such as what Microsoft updates have been installed). When prompted, click "Yes" to the update security settings question. Save the resultant file as "C:\comp.html" (we just need the html file; not the folder with images, etc.).
[+] Launch IE; go to Tools -> Toolbars; take a screenshot or let us know what toolbars have been installed (e.g., Adobe Reader, Yahoo!, Google, etc.).
If you could send us the file c:\reg1.reg, c:\reg2.reg, c:\comp.html (all three available via Start -> Run -> c:\), and the list of installed toolbars, we would greatly appreciate it.
And please let us know if you have any questions regarding this request.
Thanks in advance!

Wililam Donnelly replied on January 07, 2009 19:15 to the question "LibraryThing import with Manage tab?" in LivingSocial:
Hello Cprosser:
Thanks for getting in touch with us regarding this issue!
The old method for importing from LibraryThing is no longer available, but we can still help!
Through LibraryThing, export your list of books to a CSV file. Email the file to us at feedback@livingsocial.com, explaining you would like the books added to your collection, and we should be able to make it happen.
Please, be a little generous, and give us a few days to get this done - we have a lot of people out because of the holidays.
Thanks!

Wililam Donnelly replied on December 15, 2008 22:33 to the question "How do I access the livingsocial account that was created through my facebook if the facebook link is not working?" in LivingSocial:
Hello Dave and moondog:
To link your Facebook application account to an external livingsocial.com account, perform the following steps -
* In a new tab or window, go to and login to Facebook
* In a separate new tab or window, go to the external LivingSocial site
* Click on any interest (e.g., Books)
* Create a new account if you do not already have one
* In the top navbar, click on the “Settings” link
* In the Settings pop-up, click on the “Link my Facebook, MySpace or Bebo account” link
* In the Link Accounts pop-up, click on the “Facebook” icon
The linking process can take up to 10 minutes to complete. You will receive a message when the linking process has finished. Once linked, changes you make in Facebook will be reflected on the external LivingSocial site (and vice versa).
Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Hello Robert:
Thanks for getting in touch with us regarding this issue!
When following the directions, does the "Edit Visual Bookshelf Settings" window's "Profile" tab contain a "Box" line? Does it currently read "Added"?

If so, can you remove it, add it back, and see it within your Facebook profile's "Boxes" tab?
Thanks in advance!

Wililam Donnelly replied on December 04, 2008 16:59 to the question "Authorized Application?" in LivingSocial:
Hello Matt:
Thanks for reporting this issue!
First, verify that Facebook recognizes (at a basic level) that the Visual Bookshelf application has been authorized. To this end, please perform the following steps:
[+] Login to Facebook
[+] Go to the Visual Bookshelf application page (http://www.facebook.com/apps/applicat...)
[+] If the "Go to Application" button is present, click it; if not click on the "Go to this application" link

[+] If you receive a prompt to "Allow" the application authorization, click the "Allow" button; if not, you should be taken directly to the application (meaning the application has already been authorized)
[+] After opening the application, you should see a "Bookmark Visual Bookshelf" link; if you have not already bookmarked the application, click on this button

[+] After bookmarking the application, go to the Facebook "Application Settings" area (http://www.facebook.com/editapps.php)
[+] Under the "Show" menu, select "Bookmarked" option if the application does not already show up under the "Recently used" view
From here you should be able to click on the "Edit Settings" link for Visual Bookshelf, and add it your Facebook profile using the remaining FAQ steps.
Please let us know if these steps still do not allow you to access these settings.
Thanks!

Wililam Donnelly replied on December 02, 2008 16:23 to the question "Visual Bookshelf no longer shows as one of my facebook applications -- how do I get it back?" in LivingSocial:
Hello Erin (and to all other who encountered this issue):
Apologies for the delayed response. And thanks for reporting this issue!
Facebook, after changing to the "new" interface, requires that you bookmark an application manually (as opposed to the old process where installed applications were bookmarked automatically).
Please perform the following steps to add a bookmark for "Visual Bookshelf" -
[+] at the bottom the browser window, click on the "Applications" link on the left-hand side of the Facebook toolbar
[+] click on the "Edit" link at the top of the Applications Menu
[+] select the "Authorized" option from the "Show" dropdown menu
[+] under the "Authorized" view, find the "Visual Bookshelf" row and click on the corresponding "Edit" link
[+] in the popup, click on the "Bookmark" tab/link
[+] check the "Bookmark Visual Bookshelf" checkbox
[+] click the "Okay" button
You may need to verify that the "Visual Bookshelf" application was properly installed. To verify this, go to the "Visual Bookshelf" application page (http://www.facebook.com/apps/applicat...). If a "Go to Application" button appears (see attached screenshot), then click the button to install the application. Then perform the steps outlined above to add the application bookmark.

Please let us know if you encounter any additional issues.
Thanks!
