A comment on the question "Experience using Epiphan VGA grabber and CourseCast" in Panopto:
Thanks Greg. This is practical and helpful information about how the VGA2USBs actually perform. I've been encouraged by some of the other staff at Panopto to consider getting the VGA2SUB LR instead of the VGA2USB due to performance issues; your comments illustrate what those problems might look like.
Do you have experience with any of the Datapath VGA cards? If so, would you be willing to comment upon their performance? Since we're looking to upgrade 12 or more classrooms for basic lecture capture without primary video we won't likely be able to justify the cost of Datapath cards. However, I'd still like to hear from someone about how well, or poorly, they actually perform.

Thanks Dave. I hadn't thought of grabbing a signal directly from the document camera. I'll look this up and get back to you. – Will, on October 21, 2009 21:19
Will asked a question in Panopto on October 21, 2009 19:13:
Experience using Epiphan VGA grabber and CourseCastHas anyone tried using Epiphan's VGA2USB and VGA2USB LR devices with CourseCast? I'd like to use one of these models or something comparable to capture our document camera output in CC recordings along with a primary audio stream (but no video).
There are three things I'd like to find out:
1. Does CourseCast have any difficulty recognizing the output from these devices?
2. What kind of PC resources do these devices require? Is the processing required comparable to that of video from a primary, full-motion stream?
3. I'd also like to know why I should consider the more expensive Epiphan VGA2USB LRs. It seems like the VGA2USB should capture a document camera adequately with its 10fps at 1024x768 resolution. Maybe I'm underestimating the amount of motion and resolution that will be required...-

Will replied on October 08, 2009 17:54 to the question "Maximum frame rate for secondary video sources?" in Panopto:
Thanks Dave. I'll try that and let you know how it works. I'm concerned about having adequate processing power for four video streams but I'd like to try this out.
Can you tell me what the default frame rate for secondary video sources is? I'm talking about a video source not a screen capture. And what will the frame rate be after I make the adjustment you describe?
Will asked a question in Panopto on October 08, 2009 17:06:
Maximum frame rate for secondary video sources?I'm trying to find out what the maximum frame rate for secondary video sources is. I couldn't find the answer in the wiki. I know that screen caps appear to be adjustable up to 15fps. Are other secondary sources different? If the framerate does top out at 15fps can this be changed by editing a PRX or similar config file?
I have a recording scenario in which an Osprey video card provides four video inputs, all of which are being captured as secondary sources. This has some interesting potential benefits (e.g., simultaneous, multi-camera recording). However, I'd like to test this out thoroughly first.

Stats available to videographers and presenters? Can videographers and presenters see usage statistics or are stats only open to administrators?
Will asked a question in Panopto on July 29, 2009 22:30:
Podcast Statistics?Hello, I've been looking at the usage stats that are provided and can't seem to find any indication of whether podcast download statistics are factored in or not. Can anyone advise me on this? I would like to obtain these. Ideally, I would like them separated from overall viewing stats...and capable of being exported : )
Will asked a question in Panopto on June 24, 2009 14:24:
Usage statistics and learning outcomes?Hello,
Have any institutions using CourseCast tied usage stats to learning outcomes? If so, would you mind sharing how you have done this? I'm interested in corresponding or talking to anyone about your experience.
Regards,
Will
A comment on the question "What kind of reports would Administrators like to be available from the server?" in Panopto:
Eric,
The current statistics that are offered in 2.1 are relevant and I can't think of any I would like to add. However, they would be much more useful if they could be extracted in some way. Have you considered providing an option for download?
In addition to usage statistics we're interested in how institutions go about assessing or evaluating the use of CourseCast.

Eric,
I'm also interested in looking at or beta testing the archive management software.
