Ok... I was under the impression that emailtoid reccomended flow was:
* Do discovery on the "proper" URL" (ie, http://user@example.com/)
* If that fails, do directed identity on domain (ie, example.com)
* If that fails, use emailtoid
EAUT seems more about some broken way of "mapping" email addresses onto URL patterns...

We're working on libraries to implement the EAUT protocol at http://eaut.googlecode.com/svn/code/. The PHP library should work, and is built on top of the JanRain OpenID library (at least the XRDS stuff).

what's the profit margin on items that Amazon sells? 15% maybe? Whatever it is, then let Amazon take that portion of the donation. I'd rather put 15 cents in Amazon's pocket and 85 cents to a good charity, rather than spend $1 on something I really don't need and am simply going to throw away when it arrives.

I like this idea, but I think many online merchants offer free shipping as a way to encourage shoppers to spend a bit more, like "Hey, we'll give you free shipping if you make it worth our while." If they don't bring in those few extra dollars per order, the cost effectiveness of free shipping might go out the window.

How about donations instead of filler items for free shipping? All too often, you buy an item or two and realize you're only a couple of bucks short of getting the free Super Saver shipping. The cost of shipping is generally more than the cost difference, so you add some small item you don't really need just to put you over the top. Heck, there are websites dedicated to just this process (http://www.filleritem.com/ for one).
Instead of having customers buy these ridiculous little items that they don't really need and will likely be thrown out anyway, how about allowing customers make a charitable donation in that amount to put them over the free shipping limit? They don't buy something they don't need, Amazon doesn't have to ship anything extra, and money goes to a good cause. Everybody wins.
