Will Wyckoff shared an idea in Brighter Planet on October 10, 2009 19:41:
Shower or Bathe in a Tub?I haven't showered or bathed in a tub for years. My wife and I bathe standing up which from a large bowl which uses less than a gallon of water at a time. Also, we get spring water in town for drinking and cooking from a spring in town, using faucet water for batheing and cleaning purposes.
Another tip about saving water is to reduce the water you cook with to a minimum and serve the remaining broth in soups or stock of some kind, as a stock for gravy, etc.

I don't know what the averages are nor do I know what the numbering and evaluation system is for measuring one's carbon footprint, but I recently computed my family's on another site. It was about 3.6 and was rated as very good to excellent. I'm striving to get as close to 0 as possible. I don't think you're gluttonous, rather no aware of your consumption habits.
Will Wyckoff replied on October 10, 2009 19:30 to the idea "water footprint?" in Brighter Planet:
I've never liked the term "Footprint" as applied to consequences of consumption or waste disposal. I especially find it incongruous to attach "Footprint" to water usage or its being wasted. I'd love to have someone, anyone, make a footprint in any body of water and show it to me. Yes, I'd love to have an all-inclusive term defining consumption and waste but footprint doesn't cut it for me. Thank you.
