I just published a sample collection to:
http://homepage.mac.com/wjs/delicious...
And I'm seeing umlauts. Are you sure the umlauts are correct in your original data? Can you send me a link to the site that's failing?
It might be that your web server is set to serve documents using the wrong content-type, although I'd think the one we have built into the document would override it. Hmm.

William Shipley replied on July 30, 2009 09:35 to the problem "Hires images gone after updating from 2.0 to 2.1.1" in Delicious Monster:
Hi Jan,
I took your problem to the CoreData team at Apple, and it turns out your database is corrupt in a subtle way - the row that contains one of the hi-res images is corrupt, which doesn't trip up Delicious Library during normal use (I just skip the corrupted row), but does make the upgrade process abort.
You can verify this corruptness using the sqlite3 command-line tool if you'd like - we ran a verify command and sqlite3 told us exactly where the corruption lay.
Database corruption like this is most often caused by the machine being forcibly rebooted or shut down without warning, and so the operating system doesn't have a chance to write out its remaining buffers to disk, which leaves the database in a bad state.
I found a simple way to read the remaining good parts out of your database and create a new, non-corrupted file, which works great (but is obviously missing the one cover that was corrupted) in 2.0 and 2.1 and beyond.
Contact me directly and I'll e-mail it to you or put it someplace that you can download it.
Yours,

I'm planning on adding more sorting options in 3.0, but for 2.0 there were a LOT of people who complained about the default sort ordering, so I thought I'd switch it.
I hear that you guys don't like this change - I might change it back in a point release, but I know I can't make everyone happy until I have more options, and that has to wait a little bit.

Hi Jan,
I'm sorry you hit this problem. I haven't seen anyone else with this issue, but we have your data file, and I'll be showing it to the Apple CoreData engineers soon.
Your bug id is in our bug tracking system is 137160. I don't think you can get directly to this bug (because we opened it for you, so you don't have permission), but if you send e-mail to "support@delicious-monster.com" you'll get a new case number that you can monitor (and we'll be able to write you when you solve the problem), and we'll merge your current bug with the new case.

While I work on this, you can go back to using 2.0.7, I've put a fresh build here: http://delicious-monster.com/download...
Since you can't run Delicious Library 2.1 to file a bug report in-app, can you please manually file bug reports by e-mailing "support@delicious-monster.com"? This will give you case numbers and you'll be promoted to my very short list of people having upgrade issues, so I can work with you both directly to get this resolved. (It lets me e-mail you, and adds you to my to-fix list, which is managed in a different database than this support site - non-optimal, I know!)

Frank:
I'm very sorry you're having this trouble - I know it's no comfort that the vast majority of users were upgraded fine, but hopefully it helps a bit that I'm working full-time on making sure the handful of people (like you) who are having troubles get them resolved.

I'd need to get a copy of your data files to resolve this; would this be possible? You can upload them to my public iDisk folder (I'll send you the password in e-mail when I get your reports) or we can work out another way to get them over, assuming you have no objections.

I haven't seen any other reports of your exact problem (the others are running out of memory, not having verification problems), so I'm not sure what's going on here.
