WWF replied on October 29, 2009 10:57 to the question "WWF: "threat of chemicals" fact or fiction?" in WWF:
Hi Brandon
You make some excellent points.
Unfortunately the document you refer to is about 5 years old and we no longer have a programme of work on toxics. Not for some years now. What this effectively means is that we do not have any guidelines or set of principles on this issue to share with you. Equally, and our apologies, we do not have the staff anymore who can respond correctly and satisfactorily to the questions you justifiably raise.
However, in your feedback there is an overarching issue which WWF must address in all its reports. Especially if we are achieve any degree of credibility.
This is why the comments that you have made will be pushed up to highest levels here.
Our apologies again that we can't answer your direct questions, but we are sincerely grateful that you raised this as an issue.
I will also remove the report that you refer to from our site today.

Hi Victor
You can send them to questions@wwf.panda.org. The max total attachment size that you can send in 1 email is 20MB.
They will then get forwarded on to the correct people.

WWF replied on October 06, 2009 17:21 to the idea "Wrong Goals - Bad Science" in WWF:
HI SR
Although in more general terms I would agree with you about the horror of being wasteful, isn't the point more about being sustainable
Or have I misunderstood the point you are making? (apologies if so)
I mean, you could spend your money on buying the same pair of shoes 50 times and wearing each pair only once. But if you earn enough money to do that, although it is terribly wasteful, it is at least, in terms of your income, sustainable?
About the forests: really? OK - I will see if I can find any facts on that as I'm no expert.
Thanks for your input.

WWF replied on October 06, 2009 16:32 to the question "How to Calculate Your Ecological Footprint" in WWF:
You are absolutely right.
And to your suggested solution: I was also thinking this morning how the whole thing could be simplified... it doesn't have to be scientifically accurate, but more an indicator. One that can be easily used and adopted and most importantly spread around.
For example, you could have a scale of 1 to 10 - with 1 being the lowest impact and 10 the highest.
You could then assign different actions different points levels.
So
* cycling 2x a week to get somewhere is 1 point.
* driving every day is 10 points.
* eating meat less than 3x a week is 4 points
* eating meat every day is 8 points
They are simply be indicators.
So come up with enough questions (that you could just take from any footprint calculator), test with 3 or 4 people, score them, maybe tweak the points as you go, and you should find different levels appearing.
Then you could assign a traffic light indication of how big the person's footprint is based on how many points they get
Red: whoah, think again (> XXXpoints)
Green: nice going (<xx>re still (and always) learning.

WWF replied on October 05, 2009 16:18 to the question "How to Calculate Your Ecological Footprint" in WWF:
Hi Charles
Just to add to Jackie's response...
As far as I know it all gets pretty complex.
There is a PDF document here that (kind of) shows how footprints are calculated:
http://www.footprintnetwork.org/image...
And in there, *i think* it is the "CLUMS" that are used as the main basis for how our impacts are measured.
It doesn't provide the full full-on data sheets that are used to arrive at the footprint results, but I believe these are huge (huge) bundles of information.
I would say that the best people to contact about this would be these people:
http://www.footprintnetwork.org/en/in...
Sorry I can't be of more help right now, but I'll ask around in the office and see if I can find out anything in addition.
(And will report it here if I do).

WWF replied on September 30, 2009 09:40 to the question "What is the salary of presidents of WWF?" in WWF:
Hi Christine
I'm just double checking on your first question (I think I know the answer, but just want to be sure).
As for the second, the expenditure (and income) is broken down here:
http://www.panda.org/who_we_are/organ...
Also on this page:
http://www.panda.org/who_we_are/
Need to scroll down, on the right hand side... there are reports going back to 2003 that list the financials for WWF for each year.
(2003 is when we changed the format of how we report, hence why it starts then and not before).
Right: I'll get back to you on the salary question as soon as I'm sure I won't make a fool of myself.
cheers

Jackie is right.
But the other thing you can do is simply enter the URL of the WWF web site that you want translated here:
http://www.translate.google.com/trans...
It's pretty rough, and it doesn't do Mongolian yet, which I believe is what you wanted translated, but it usually does a pretty good.

This was probably a blip on the servers. I checked the downloads and their links and they seem to be OK now.
If you are still having a problem, let us know the URL of the page where the report is failing to download for you, and we'll take a look.
Sorry for any inconvenience this blip caused.

Hi Sarah
Yes - sorry about this. We recently had the site redesigned, and now some of the pages do not come out correctly when printing.
We hope to have this fixed within the next few weeks... but admittedly we thought the same thing a few weeks back, and it is still not working.
So at the moment all I can do is offer you our apologies and sincerely promise you that this is definitely something we are currently working on.

WWF replied on September 09, 2009 07:43 to the question "How is WWF financed: is it a QUANGO?" in WWF:
Hi Margaret
The answer is no, we are not a Quango (according to the definition I understand):
"an organisation to which government has devolved power"
We are an independent organisation:
http://www.panda.org/who_we_are/organ...
With our own board of Trustees:
http://www.panda.org/who_we_are/organ...
But we do get funding from some Government aid agencies in order to carry out specific and targeted projects that align with our projects and ultimate goals/mission:
http://www.panda.org/what_we_do/how_w...
More information on our finances can be found here:
http://www.panda.org/who_we_are/organ...
And also in the Annual Review that we publish each year (PDF):
http://assets.panda.org/downloads/wwf... (2008 1.1MB)
At the bottom of this page you can find our Annual Reviews going back to 2003
http://www.panda.org/who_we_are/organ...
and just in case I missed anything:
http://www.panda.org/wwf_quick_facts.cfm
:-)
Hope this helps.

WWF replied on September 07, 2009 14:50 to the problem "WWF Brazil" in WWF:
Hi Teresa
You are absolutely right and we are equally aghast.
WWF did not approve the advertisements produced by DBB Brazil but nonetheless apologizes to 9-11 victims and families for any pain they may have caused.
We are outraged that the ad concept was ever created and we are deeply sorry that WWF is in any way connected with them.
The ad was unthinkably insensitive and should never have seen the light of day and it does not in any way reflect the thoughts and feelings of the people of WWF nor the values we uphold.
