Looks like this post is closed, since a recent update from Dell-Chris_M was posted on a recent Dell Community Support forum, of saying:

"(1) The file library will be updated to have a 64-bit Vista drop down. When, we don't know. For now, if you check the Compatibility section, the drivers should state Microsoft Windows Vista 32-bit and Microsoft Windows Vista 64-bit. So, they are officially supported in Vista 64-bit.

    (2) If you bought the PC with Dell Vista 32bit and you upgrade to Dell Vista 64bit, we will support the hardware, operating system, drivers, and Dell installed software."

There is indeed hope after all. Thank you, Dell-Chris_M for your support.

One response from a Dell Rep is hardly a discussion; more of a delay tactic. Get more response from other private users than from anyone at Dell.

It is amazing that Dell's stance is to refute 64 bit support for the system one week, and the next week Dell is again selling the system with 64 bit Vista. Customer Service, Dell Manufacturing, and Sales really need to get in synchronization.

Customer Service says the system will come with a 64 bit OS, and it arrives with 32 bit. Dell Rep, Chris, says "sorry, you're on your own with the 64 bit OS since it is not installed with that system." - while at the same time Dell is selling the system with 64 bit OS again online.

Seems the customers do more work in proving their case than Dell does in striving for customer satisfaction.

Remember, Dell sells the 630i as a Gaming System; which can be upgraded to 8 GB of RAM, and offers dual video of both Nvidia & ATI.

630i now comes with Vista 64 bit, but Dell won't support it.
I bought a 630i and asked to have Vista 64 bit installed. After Customer Service approved my Dell credit, the machine was built. On receipt, the OS was instead Vista 32 bit. Chris_M on the Dell Community forums arranged to get a copy of Vista 64 bit sent to me, yet says there will be no support for software or drivers, and that finding drives is up to me. He claims Dell does not have a 630i system with Vista 64 bit OS installed, so their technical support team will not spend time making 64 bit drivers.

However, this weekend, Dell is selling 639i system with Vista 64 bit installed. Now, rather than having to send this system back over a Software/OS warranty & support issue, why can't Dell just send me the 64 bit drivers, and amend my account? Sure would save a lot of time, money, aggravation, and make a happy customer.
