I have to surrender m8, you might have a point there ;)
Yes, the policy practised by them simply doesn't make sence in the year of 2009.. – Xenius, on April 28, 2009 19:16

Maybe it's the record labels, maybe it's not. It could be an error within the app itself aswell..
Why should the record label allow uploading of an album unristricted, that has already been removed once, only to remove it the second time again a few weeks later due to eventual country restrictions?
This makes no sence, and doesn't neccesarily have to do with the country restriction (since it should have been restricted in Sweden already, during the uploading as most restricted albums do, and not a few weeks later, which is the case with this album).
In my oppinion, it would be very interesting for a Spotify employee to look into this specific case, as it might well expose a bug in the restriction/uploading procedure.
Just my 5 cents..
Xenius asked a question in Spotify on April 27, 2009 21:07:
A mistake or ?At "the big spring cleanup", amongst others, i lost the Blank & Jones "Relax" album.
In an update a few weeks back, i was therefore very happy to find out, that it was now available again ( i even made a post here thanking for the upload of several Blank & Jones albums.)
Guess what: With todays update, it is now gone again!
Is this a joke ? Please tell me it is, because this ongoing disappearence of uploaded and available albums is killing me.
An app simply can't work this way, it's getting all Forrest Gump: You never know what you get. Tracks available one day, gone the next.
Why is already available tracks still being removed- You told, it was a one time cleanup only ?
PLEASE find a solution to this. It's getting very very annoying. If this continues, my suggestion would be that Spotify should change it's name to "Russian Roulette" instead :(
EDIT: Found the blog entry, where it returned, and was available again in Sweden:

Blank & Jones, and not Blank + JonesFirst of all, thanks for adding a lot of Blank & Jones lately ;)
But it seems like they have been named both "Blank & Jones" and "Blank + Jones".
A merge of these would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Some very good and intereseting comments.
This is whats get me puzzled: Why are the label companies interested in this utterly complex restriction of their albums, when they have a golden oppurtunity to enter the digital market with a truly great concept ?
I am not an angel. I have bought a lot of music through time, but have also downloaded some illegaly, i am not justifying this, but there is an interesting thruth:
I havent illegaly downloaded one single song since i became a Premium customer at Spotify. Even though a certain track/album havent been available in Spotify, i have thought "well, i just listen to it when it gets available in Spotify". Havent bothered downloading it illegaly, even though it would take just a few clicks with the mouse.
So appearently Spotify facilitates a "cultural" change when it comes to the distribution of digital media, it facilitates the thought "why be a pirate" which for me, no other concept has done before
And since the label companies have yelled crywolf about piracy for so long , why in earth would they miss a golden opputunity like this when it finally comes to them ? Insted of grabbing it, and let it grow, so new opportunities, new subscription plans, new ways of making money becomes available over time ?
As i see it, they have a very dedicated team at their "service" working 24 hours to satisfy both the users and labels. Why not make use of this great advantage presented to them, instead of slowly killing it, and the spirit of Spotify, with all kind of stupid restrictions (and no, i am not a rocket scientist, but restricting a certain song, to a certain part of the world is in my oppinion UTTERLY stupid in the year of 2009..) ?
They are just comprimising the trustworthiness of Spotify trough their stupid maze of "digital rights".
I believe, that all this will have one outcome at the end: People will eventually get back to achiev "their" music the easy way: through piracy.
Why ? Because piracy is global. Piracy dont care about if you live in the Uk or Sweden. They offer equal rights to all the users.
Sad to realize, that the pirates (myself?) have understood what the label companies still miss out on: It's time to think globally, think "out of the box".-

Xenius asked a question in Spotify on March 03, 2009 18:29:
Take down noticesAccording to answers in other threads about music still disappearing, it indicates, that the removal of music is an automated process, where a label can issue a "take down notice" resulting in albums/tracks being removed automatically.
It was earlier stated, that no more music would be removed from now on.
But appearently music is still being removed, and also appearently in most cases without Spotify officials knowing about it, due to the automated process (unless a user notices the removed album, and draws attention to it, so an official can look int the matter, and get an explanation from the label about the cause of the removal).
If this is correctly understood, any album can actually disappear any time without any Spotify official or user knowing about it.
This is really sad news, and this whole removal/restriction problemacy is really destroying my trust in this great service. Because it seems so random.
And i believe trust is everything in this business.
I am really concerned about whats going on atm.
Afraid, that this will eventually be the end of this great piece of software that we all love so much.
So, dear Spotify user, share your view on the issue and lets have a talk about all this

IMPORTANT! Restriction bug in Spotify ?I am getting suspicious about, that there is a restriction bug in Spotify!
Everytime i look at the google doc containing the new releases, maybe 5-6 albums out of 10 are restricted for me as a Premium user in Sweden.
And i am not exaturating these numbers.
Either i am VERY unlucky, having a tendency to "choose" the restricted albums (and getting very disappointed as a result), or maybe there is some kind of software error in the restrictions system ?
In the latest release as of today on the blog, 02.02.2009, i was SO happy to find no less than 54 (!!!) "Tangerine Dream" albums. WOW i thougt!!!
But not a single one of them is available to me (amongst a lot of other artists announced)...
So i decided to dig in a little more, and here comes the interesting part:
Older "Tangerine Dream" albums are already available within Spotify, and they are from the EXACT same label as these new releaes which are not available!!!
Example of an "old" available album:
http://open.spotify.com/album/0GMnOKt...
Example of new unavailable album (just 1 out the new 54, see google doc for others):
http://open.spotify.com/album/5lHrTIb...
As you see, they are both from the same label!
The difference is in the year tag of the label, the avaliable one stating:
"2000 TDI Music"/"2000 M.A.T. Music Theme Licensing GmbH",
the unavailable stating:
"2008 TDI Music"/2008 M.A.T. Music Theme Licensing GmbH"!
Therefore it seems to me, that the same label appears as two different labels due to the year tag!
So, is there a restriction bug somewhere in the software, misinterpreting the labels, or is there another reasonable explanation ?

Premium + account ?The regional restrictions issue have really ruined the Spotify experience for me.
I really do miss the times, starting Spotify without worrying about a certain album/artist not being available in my country.
It's just not the same anymore..
So i am thinking, if maybe a Premium + account could be a possibility?
A slightly more expensive subscription plan, lets say 150 skr. a month, and with no restrictions (regional etc.) in return.
I know offcourse things aren't straightforward, and propably a lot of reasons makes this impossible, but I personally would gladly pay the extra amount, and maybe this way it would be a viable deal for everyone ?
