Nice article, thanks for sharing m8 ;)
Quote from article:
"After all, these restrictions are not the result of different laws or community standards, but commercial choices made by companies, and they can be remade if the commercial will is there.
When will the content companies realise that I am not an IP number, I am a free man - and a potential customer, no matter where I am in the world"

Xenius shared an idea in Spotify on February 08, 2009 11:38:
New released music list: Inform about restrictionsThere is nothing worse, than looking through the new released list presented on the blog, and afterwoods finding out in Spotify, that a certain album/track you want to play is restricted in your country.
So please add a column in the list, telling which countries the album/track is restricted in.
And by the way, "we will not remove anymore music from now on" isn't quite true in my oppinion.. Adding 1.000 tracks, where only maybe 900 is available in my country, is still an ongoing removal of 100 tracks for me..
Giving with one hand, taking away with the other..
I must say, that my disappointment with Spotify is getting bigger and bigger.

Generally it seems like Sweden is very hard hit when it comes to country restrictions.
The Ironic part is, that a lot of these retstricted artists are swedish.. – Xenius, on February 08, 2009 00:08

It seems a delibarate choise, that none of the officials reply in this thread, even though it's one of the most active threads in the moment.
I find this very ignorant.
When i joined, the slogan said, and still says "A world of music".
I believe the correct phrasing would be "A 'world' of music with strict country resctrictions".

Wow m8, and i thought my situation was bad... one single song remains on your playlist :( – Xenius, on February 06, 2009 19:23

What i don't understand is, that all the music to be found in Spotify in the firstplace before the "cleanup", have been from labels where agreements had been settled to a certain level, right ?
If not, the music would have been illegal, which is not the case.
But it seems like, the "aftertouch" of regional restrictions etc. makes these agreements cover only maybe 3/4 of the initial database..
And this is what doesn't make sense to me.
This seems very unlogic. Someone must have forgotten to do their homework, and we, the users are paying the price now..
The sad part is, that if the "gone" muisc haven't been there in the firstplace, it wouldn't hurt so much loosing it.
According to some searches i made before and after the cleanup, around 200.000 tracks have been removed... 200.000...

I am SO mad!!! 1/4 of all my tracks GONE!!!First of all, i am a Premium user.
When the "Some important changes to the Spotify music catalogue" was first announced, it was announced like we would loose a few tracks, not making the big impact to the Spotify music catalogue.
So i thought "what the heck, how bad can it be?"
And today, it was annnounced on the blog, that the cleanup had finally come to an end.
So i logged on to Spotify, expecting to have lost a few tracks on my "master" playlist, a collection of all of my favourite music, spanning over most genres, new as old.
And WOW i was surprised!!! I had maybe lost 1/4 of all my tracks!!!
(I have aproxx. 300 tracks on the playlist, and Spotify tells me that "80 tracks could not be replaced")
This is totally UNACCAPTABLE!!! The announcement made it sound like a "minor" claenup, but so much music is gone!!!
I am posting my playlist here for everyone to see the impact with their own eyes (remember to go to the preferences menu and un-check “Hide Unplayable tracks” and then press the Apply button):
http://open.spotify.com/user/yuskar/p...
I am urging everyone to post examples of ther playlists, so we all can see what a disgrace this is!!!
Please everyone, let's keep this thread burning!!! This is too big to let it go!!
This is the end for me as a Spotify user, sad really, as i have been a very satisifed user, promoting the service to family and friends.. A very sad day indeed..
PS: How come, that it specially seems like the whole electro/trance genre is gone ? This really doesn't make sense..
Xenius replied on February 02, 2009 10:38 to the update "Some important changes to the Spotify music catalogue" in Spotify:
Wow, haven't seen the full impact soon, since the cleanup in playlists aren't implemented, but searching for most of the artists on my "master" playlist, i get an "artist not found message".
So dark times are coming..
Seems like the whole genre of trance music is gone..
The whole "Cafe del Mar" series are gone as well..
This REALLY gets me sad..

Unable to send invitationsI have tried sending 2 different invitations to my friend, to different mail adresses to make sure it's not the email client blocking it, but he hasn't recieved any of them. So seems like the invitations gets stranded somewhere. Any issues with the invitations atm ?-
