A comment on the question ""motionbox" vs. Vimeo .... what are the big differences ?" in Motionbox:
Hi, Anita! Looks like we were both posting at the same time :) Thanks for
pointing out that "bad" content is always subject to removal. We have to keep things legal and clean on Motionbox!

A comment on the question ""motionbox" vs. Vimeo .... what are the big differences ?" in Motionbox:
Thanks for making this point, Chris.
At this time, our Premium service does offer an archival storage solution (we keep copies of the original video file which the owner can access and download at anytime) to customers for the duration of the member's subscription. We do not offer source storage or downloads to Basic (free) members. Both Basic and Premium members can access the optimized versions of their videos on the Motionbox site for as long as their memberships remain active.
We do always encourage all members (including Premiums) to keep duplicate copies of their videos, since no storage solution is completely fail proof.
In order to make room for new, active members, we periodically deactivate or delete content from Basic accounts that have been inactive for a very long time, but we always send email notification in advance and allow people time to come back and use their accounts without interruption.
Hope this clarifies some of your concerns. Please don't hesitate to ask us about our Terms and Conditions at any time. We do want and expect all of our members to read and understand them, and we are always glad to answer your questions.... – Yael, on April 14, 2009 14:27

Hi 0lli!
We love it when our members like stm (above) are able to articulate the differences between Motionbox and other video sharing services. It all sounds much better coming from people who *don't* work here. :)
Here's a link to a recent blog post by a Motionbox user who reviewed several other sites before deciding to use Motionbox as his provider: http://john-infante.com/2009/01/02/wh...
A couple of things this user points out that haven't been mentioned yet in this thread:
- Motionbox offers some light editing features that many users find very helpful. You can stitch together short clips, and/or trim the "bad" parts out of longer videos. No desktop editing required.
- With unlimited uploading and AVCHD support, you can upload "raw" HD video from your camcorder without having to convert/compress it first.
- Motionbox Premium offers true archival storage of your videos. As a Premium member, you can download your source video at any time:
"...But Motionbox’s killer feature is that it pitches itself as a video archiving and storage site, not just a hosting site for viral videos. Premium members can download their original source video. That means that if you’re willing, you can upload a video to Motionbox, and delete it off your hard drive, while being fairly confident you can get the video back. Obviously this isn’t advised, but until I have a better way to store this stuff (anyone want to buy me a Drobo and some big ole hard drives?), it works for me..."
Happy New Year!
Yael replied on July 17, 2008 21:47 to the question "expire a share after a fixed amount of time" in Motionbox:
Hi Michael -
Expiring a share is not currently possible, but there are a couple of things you can do if you no longer want your private video to be visible to the folks w/whom you've already shared it.
Option #1: Change the privacy setting of the video to Open Access or Protected and then back to Private. Changing the setting will update the secret "token" in the video's URL. This way, if the people you've shared it with have bookmarked this and/or passed on the link, the old URL will no longer be available.
Option #2: Mark your video as Protected instead of Private. Protected videos are visible to everyone on your Contact list; if there's anyone you want to remove from the list, you can do so at any time. If you have Contacts who are not Motionbox members, you will need to send them an invitation through Motionbox in order to give them access to Protected videos.
Hope this helps! We'll keep the share expiration in mind for future feature updates.
Best,
Yael
Yael replied on May 21, 2008 18:17 to the question "Transferring videos from PC to DVD" in Motionbox:
No worries - we can definitely help you out!
Making DVDs can be a pain, so we've added a service that will take care of it for you. The nice thing about MP4s is that they are really easy to upload to the web. You can just go to http://www.motionbox.com/gifts to upload your videos directly to our DVD creator. Arrange your videos however you like, add a title, and you're all set. We'll burn and ship your DVD (or several) to you right away. DVDs cost $19.99, and shipping in the US is free at the moment!
As for transferring your old home movies, Motionbox has a solution for that as well. We've partnered with a service that will transfer your old VHS tapes (and other formats like Super-8, Hi8, or Beta) to DVD *and* to your Motionbox account so you can share them online. The cost of this service varies depending on how much video you have to transfer. We're announcing our partnership in just a day or so, so you have excellent timing. I'll post a link to the site as soon as we launch!
Anyone else have suggestions for Swanny? Don't be shy - post 'em here!

Hi there! Sorry to hear that you're having trouble hearing the audio track on your video. If you send a link to the video to support@motionbox.com, we'll be happy to take a look and try to determine what's causing this problem.
