Good point. We’ve considered adding additional aftermarket registrars in this area.

Sometimes a domain isn’t registered (DNS isn’t 100% accurate), so we persist the option to view a domain at the registrar of your choice.

You can register a domain name with 101domain. If it’s for a company, it must be registered:

While I can’t speak for Marcaria, Domainr uses DNS to determine availability. This produces a fast, but approximate result for availability.

Certain TLDs and registrars omit DNS root records for registered domains. These will show up as available in Domainr, but taken in a registrar.

Domainr displays all results that are technically possible, regardless of any [arbitrary] restrictions placed on the TLD by the controlling entity.

It’s our intent to show via logs & statistics that there is demand for domains that are not currently permitted. Ideally, this can lead to policy changes, such as:

- allowing registrations at the 2nd level e.g. foo.au
- lifting of residency requirements for ccTLDs
- broader adoption of IDN, inclusive of more Unicode character ranges
