Either they've buried IM entirely but don't want to admit it (hoping perhaps that some other service will come along and then they can abdicate responsibility to it without admitting they abandoned it) or they're trying to hide something. Otherwise, why not have some blog updates from the developers who are said to be working on restoring IM? I know *I* would be interested in what they're doing to try to solve the nearly-4-month-old outage and perpetual unchanging "Offline - working on additional capacity" claim on the status page...

Getting quite cynical about the lack of news on the two features that got me to sign up for Twitter in the first place (IM and Tracking...)

Totally agree.

My major interaction with iwantsandy is through command line entry e.g. "r pay bill tomorrow". Using twitter makes this "d s r pay bill tomorrow" which is OK. But... messy and unnecessary.

IM is a natural way to send these instructions to iwantsandy.

When on the desktop, and on the iPhone, I use mail.app to send instructions to iwantsandy, but desktop mail.app complains when I don't fill in the subject. Not a big deal, but also messy and unecessary.

What I might do, is create an Applescript that will bring up a dialog box for me to enter my command entry, which is sent to my iwantsandy email address.

I think a similar thing on the iPhone would be cool (i.e. click a single icon on the page, which brings up a page whose sole responsibility is to receive text data that is emailed to my iwantsandy account).

The "update" will only work if your email is a reply to the original. The numbers are not "global", they only apply to the 1 email conversation.

So when she sends you back a reply saying "Ok, I added this to the calendar: #1 blah", you can _Reply_ to that and say "update #1 @monthly".

I set up a reminder and Sandy replies with the item as #1. the I send a completely new email with the text "update #1 @monthly" and Samdy replies with "Hrm. I couldn't find this anywhere. Might you already have deleted it?"

This happened with another reminder I set yesterday - i had to go into sandy's site to update it.

Are you replying to a reminder/lookup request?

Is your command at the top of the email? (Before the quoted part)

Can you share an example with us?

Sadly, Sandy currently only supports 2 email addresses.. Support for more is in the works.

A few solutions to get around this:
* Use Jott or Twitter to send information to Sandy anywhere you have a Twitter Client or Voice Line
* Use a free gmail account and setup a rule to forward all email from yourother accounts to Sandy, and all email from Sandy to your other accounts.. Essentially creating an email "Router".

Does any one else find it hilarious that it still says that the company is working on the problem?

We know Twitter isn't working on this. And we know it's a pretty good possibility that they never will.

But until I can find something that will send me IMs as reminders, I'll keep bothering them about fixing it.

I agree wholeheartedly, as i've been bitten by the same quirk numerous times. Eventually Rael will sit down with Sandy and explain the Birds & the Bees and Sept.. And then all will be well.. Until then, it's Sep or September, and nothing in between.

Sept. is a common abbreviation for September. I realize that I can use Sep instead and have it work, but the sports schedules for my school all have Sept. on them and it would be a lot easier for me if I could just copy and paste instead of having to go back and change all the Sept's to Sep's.

i really dont get why its taking so long. I could have learned a computer language and fixed it by now. get on the ball guys! at the very least, keep people updated on what your doing, even if its in geek and most the people wont get what your talking about, its comforting.

The fact that Twitter still doesn't reply to this post about IM, or any other post concering IM, and that their status page only gets updated when they figure out another database problem, should clearly state their position on IM. Really, it's not like letting us know the status somehow helps their competition. I'm sure they're still coding the new IM content.

However, I'm still wondering how they intend to make income on this concept.

I don't know of any way to delete "all" reminders, but simply reply to one with

forget #1 @daily (or @weekly or whatever it repeats at).

To get a repeating event, use something like:

remember Eat lunch noon @daily

or

remember Take the Trash out tuesday 8pm @weekly

There are gadgets, apps and SMS tools to update/read twitter in a similar manner as IM. On my XP box (which is going away), IM would be easiest. On the Vista box (which I am setting up as time allows) I'll be using, a sidebar gadget that will suffice just fine. (I already use a gadget on the Vista box at home.)

Sandy already recognizes "@sms". If you have SMS reminders configured but disabled, then you can force her to send you an SMS reminder by tagging the event with @sms .
