Yjo reported a problem in RescueTime on February 08, 2008 15:04:
Time spent graph tag slices don't work as expectedThe 'time spent' chart at the bottom of the dashboard gives confusing graphs when tag slices selected are not disjoint. For example, if two tags have a substantial overlap, it's possible to display more than one hour's time usage in a one hour slot. The paradigm of tags rather than categories implies that it's appropriate to use several, and it would be nice to, for example, see time browsing and how much of that was say 'news'.
This isn't the most natural thing to do with bar graphs, and would mean querying the union of tags from the database, but a simple way of displaying the chart would be to use an intermediate colour for the intersection. (or, showing overlap with a diagonal bar divider might be quite funky, but I can't find any examples of that.)
Thanks, Yjo

Definately a 'virtual' tag system would be great, where all web usage is categorised under web or the name of the browser, but would still need to come up in the 'untagged' list so that users can clarify for time intensive stuff. Also, regarding the 'long tail' of browsing, it would be nice if tags with huge times (web, other) could be filtered out optionally when displaying app usage charts to leave more resolution on the small items..-

Have just joined rescuetime and am using the alpha from the start as I spend 90% of my waking life on Opera, and not having a site break-down would defeat the object of this utility for me... I'm using Vista Ultimate, didn't have any problems with the upgrade, will keep you posted on any quirks or bugs. I haven't yet noticed any websites appearing on my dashboard though, although application usage is updating correctly.
