Brightkite 2.0: Web: Running searches for “Seattle, Wa” has just started returning “2.91 km from Seattle” as a resultDate: 10/18/09
Description:
This is one of those, “this is new and this is what I am seeing” type of things.
Often, on the website, if I don’t know the address of a picture I want to post I will simply run a places search for “Seattle, Wa” and post to the general “Seattle, Wa” that is returned.
I have done this dozen of times on your website.
Today, I do a search for “Seattle, Wa” and for the FIRST time that I have ever seen this, the returned result is “2.91 km from Seattle”.
What in the world does “2.91 km from Seattle” mean? Why has it suddenly started doing this?
Repro Steps:
1. Navigate to www.brightkite.com
2. Sign in with account
3. Run search for “Seattle, Wa”
4. Returned result (for this user) was “2.91 km from Seattle”
Result: Running a search for “Seattle, Wa” on web has just suddenly started returning the odd search result of “2.91 km from Seattle”
Expected: Running a search for “Seattle, Wa” should not return an odd result like “2.91 km from Seattle”
NOTE: I don’t know if this is a BK problem or a Google problem.

Brightkite 2.0: Starting on 10/09/09 a majority of BK email notifications starting getting sent to Yahoo SpamDescription:
I have two BK accounts.
One of the two accounts gets email notifications (selected all for email notifications). Starting on 10/09/09, a BK account tied to a Yahoo email, starting getting the majority of email notifications sent to the Yahoo “Spam” folder.
Please note: I have never touched the Yahoo account, no special settings, etc. Just interesting to note that starting 10/09/09 it looks like emails started getting junked.
Don't know if this is a priority or not, but I would guess that you would want to know.

Brightkite Web 2.0: Clicking on a link loads page in the current open browser?Date: 10/14/09
Description:
I don’t know I am dreaming this, or if you all even have control over this, but since the roll out of Brightkite 2.0 I have notice one thing.
I notice that now, on the website, anytime that I click on url that takes me away from Brightkite, the page will load “on top” of the current Brightkite page.
I thought that before, whenever I clicked on a url which would take me away from Brightkite, it would default to always open in a new tab.
If so, that was something that I preferred, and would like to see return to the web.
Repro Steps:
1. Navigate to www.brightkite.com on web (I was using FF 3.0.14)
2. Navigate to any portion of Brightkite where another user has posted a link
3. From within Brightkite, click on a url link to another, external website
4. Note that this external website loads “on top” of the current Brightkite page
5. Scratch head and wonder, “didn’t this used to default and load on another tab?”
Result: Clicking on an external url from within Brightkite’s web UI will load the external website “on top” of Brightkite. The external website does not load up, by default, on a second tab
Expected: If at all possible, and if Brightkite has control over it, it is expected that if a user on web clicks on an external url, this external page will always load in another tab, not “on top” of the current BK page
NOTE: I am not very web savvy, and I don’t have any particular “settings” in my browser that I am aware of. After the change to Brightkite 2.0, this was the first thing that I noticed, although for all I know, it could have happened before...

2. Log in with an account
3. Click on the “check in elsewhere” link

Result: Using Opera 10 or Firefox 3.0.14 on a PC running XP, the “Search” button on the “Where are you?” pop up message is misplaced

Regarding the re-designThe old Brightkite was simple and beautiful. Almost zen.
The new website feels way too over produced. As a former software tester, I will also tell you that it doesn't work.
I mean it might work in the sense that a developer would think it works.
But you've killed it. The thrill is gone. Bring back the old site.
I'm not the only one who thinks this.
