Yon replied on October 16, 2008 14:09 to the idea "Alias for Plazes" in Plazes:
I know is a crazy idea. Let's talk more about it.
Creation:
Users shouldn't have to define the Plaze Alias by default. When you create a Plaze, if you don't give an Alias, an automatic Alias should be created (maybe based on the Plaze Name). The Plaze Alias (as the Plaze Name) can be changed at any time, but never have the same Plaze Alias as another Plaze.
The BIG problem is: Wich plaze has priority for an alias? Should be used a "First In, Firrt Gets" Policy?
Using by SMS:
Now, when Plazes receives an SMS has your crazy search algorithm to get the best Plaze for the name given. In this idea, this is step 2.
In this idea, when Plazes receives an SMS has to look for the name given, first on the "Plaze Alias" DB, and then on the "Plaze Names" DB.
The motivation of this idea, is because I think the main origin of duplicated Plazes is SMS. If you know the Alias of your Plaze, you get more acurate localization and better use of Plazes, and by the way you get shorter (and faster) SMS and more accurate .

Alias for PlazesMaybe it's a crazy idea, but when you try to update by sms it's hard to tell the exact plaze because it has a long name, and it can end creating a new one.
Maybe each plaze should have an alias, so the name could be long and descriptive for a web/plazer use but easy to call from mobile platforms.
Yon reported a problem in Plazes on October 14, 2008 15:52:
URL in commentWhen I just add an URL on a comment. The comment adds quotes around it, and convert it to a link, but inserts the closing quote into de URL.
Example:
I insert
http://test.test
It converts to a link to:
http://test.test"

Maybe you should insert a planned activity instead of a dummy activity. – Yon, on October 06, 2008 15:59

And why not to admit a "status @ Plaze on address in city, country" text? – Yon, on October 06, 2008 15:58

Erase Plazes with "0 people"If nobody supports a plaze going there... maybe it should be deleted.
PS: It could be a solution to reduce duplicated plazes. If you change your plaze to "the real one" you leave the duplicated empty of people.
