You can control certain elements of the calendar with style updates. There is a div tag defined for the calendar called calendar_container. Here are it's default settings:
div #calendar_container {
background-color:#FFFFFF;
border:1px solid #E1E1E1;
height:708px;
width:698px;
}
In your HTML document, you could override this style. A good tool for inspecting and adjusting styles on the fly is a plugin for firefox called firebug: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fire...
You cannot update/override the background color of the event list view widget. It is created in Flash.
