zgelman replied on October 29, 2008 22:53 to the question "Flyplayer will not load" in Flypaper:
Veronica,
Try to click the story title rather than the preview button and see if that launches the story. This may work better for you.
Also, when did you upload the story to the community? If the story was posted prior to Sept 13, I recommend uploading the story again and getting the embed code from the new post. If the story was posted using an older version of Flypaper, it has been known to cause issues.
Finally, if neither of these suggestions work, please send an email to support@flypaper.com. Include your Flypaper username and the title of your story, and we can retrieve the embed code for you.

Windows Update and Flypaper InstallationThe Microsoft .NET Framework will not install properly unless your copy of Windows Update is active and you do not have any pending updates to install on your computer. You can check the status of Windows update at http://update.microsoft.com.

Flypaper Does Not StartIf Flypaper does not start following a successful installation, please refer to the following list for a possible solution to your specific issue.
- If you are running Windows Vista or XP SP3, you may have to go to C:/Program Files/flypaper.exe, right click and select Run as an Administrator to get the update to work.
- If you are using XP, it sometimes takes several minutes for the update to start, and for the program to launch. We are working on the long delay and hope to have it resolved soon.
- It is also possible that your firewall or proxy server settings are blocking Flypaper. Here is a demo of changing one’s proxy settings: http://content.flypaper.net/s/Flypape...
- If none of the above helps, please click the update’s Cancel button as soon as it comes up.
zgelman replied on October 24, 2008 00:02 to the question "Problem with Flash 10?" in Flypaper:
Gina,
We just posted a software update that resolves this issue in the application:
1. Close Flypaper and reopen.
2. Flypaper will check for updates and download the file you need.
Now, when you preview stories on your local computer, the audio and video will play correctly.
To fix the training story on your internal network server:
1. After accepting the update, open the training story.
2. Save as a Web Story. This will create a folder with all of the files you need.
3. Post those files to your internal network server.
If you have any questions, please let us know.

Best Practices in Creating Flypaper Swf'sOne of our customers asked a question about importing Swf's into Flypaper. To work correctly in Flypaper, the Swf's should follow these best practices:
1. Publish your swfs as Flash 9 using ActionScript 3. Otherwise they will not respond to play and stop commands.
2. Use a framerate of 24. 24 is the framerate of the editor and the runtime. All loaded swfs will assume the framerate of the editor and runtime.
3. Add a transparent shape the size of your stage as a bounding box for edit mode. When a swf is loaded, it no longer has it's own stage size. This will help eliminate sizing issues during edit mode.
4. Do not have content that exceeds the bounding box in the first frame of your fla. This includes content in child movie clips etc. The first frame of the fla should be actual size any frames after that content exceeding the stage is not an issue. This will help eliminate sizing issues during edit mode.
5. Only use audio on the main timeline and set it's "Synch" to "Stream". When a swf is told to stop or play, that only applies to the root timeline.
6. Do not use parent or root calls in code.
7. Do not set properties on the stage in code.
8. Do not load external assets. All content should be compiled into the swf.

zgelman replied on October 15, 2008 17:41 to the question "Flypaper reported a fatal error - ProtocolViolationException" in Flypaper:
This fatal error was the result of connecting through a proxy server. To bypass the proxy server, go to Internet Explorer:
1. In the Tools menu, select Internet Options, and then click the Connections tab.
2. Click the LAN Settings button.
3. In the Automatic configuration group, select the Automatically detect settings check box.
4. In the Proxy server group, clear all check boxes
5. Click OK.
6. Click OK again to close the Internet Options dialog box.

Patrick,
You can select multiple page elements and change their Time In values at the same time.
In the page editor, click on one page element, then hold down the CTRL key and select additional page elements. Go to the Properties tab and change the Time In value once.
We are also working on a Grouping feature for an upcoming release.

VMware - Time Zone BugOne person using Flypaper with VMware on this Mac reported this issue.
He could not connect to Flypaper services because the VMware has a bug in the time zone. When he selected AZ time, it jumped ahead one hour. Since a user's computer clock must be within 5 minutes of the actual time, he could not connect.
To resolve this issue, he selected Pacific time, and then "Automatically adjust for daylight savings."
zgelman replied on October 01, 2008 21:08 to the problem "To see local Story save as EXE" in Flypaper:
Here is a tip so you don't have to run through this process every time you create a Web Story.
Create one testing folder and run the procedure above on that folder. Then, every time you save a Web Story, copy the files from the new folder into the testing folder.
1. Create a folder on your local computer, call it C:\Web_Story.
2. Run the procedure above once so that C:\Web_Story is a trusted folder.
3. Save your Flypaper Story as a Web Story. Let's say it is called "Story1".
4. Copy the files from inside the "Story1" folder to C:\Web_Story.
5. Once the files are copied over, click the index.html file to view the Story.
In other words, you don't have to make every web story folder a trusted folder, you just have to create one trusted folder and copy each new story inside.
zgelman replied on September 29, 2008 17:26 to the idea "Rollover Button" in Flypaper:
Andy,
This depends on the pictures used in the image scroller. If the image is taller than it is wide, it will look like there is a larger horizontal gap between the images. However, if the image is wider than it is tall, then there will be no extra horizontal space.
You won't be able to get the images completely flush, but if you make sure that all of the images are wider than tall, the gap will be minimized.

zgelman replied on September 25, 2008 00:34 to the question "Does FlyPaper Hold Customers Hostage..." in Flypaper:
You can save your content and host it on your own server. That content will not be affected by cancelling a subscription. Under File > Save As, you have several options for the type of file you want to save. If you save as a “Web Story”, you can put that on your own server.
However, if you post the content to our server, it stays up for 30 days after the cancellation. After that point, it is deleted.

zgelman replied on September 23, 2008 20:23 to the problem "Registration tells me to check my internet connection" in Flypaper:
Mr. Bean,
Here are some things you can try to see if you can connect to Flypaper.net:
1. Turn off the anti-virus software temporarily and see if you can log in. That will allow you to log into the machine and then you’ll be able to log in after that.
2. Add https://community.flypaper.net as a trusted site in your browser. Go to Tools > Internet Options > Security.
3. Check your computer clock to make sure it is not more than five minutes off from the time in your time zone.
Please let me know if one of these works for you.
