I could understand it if I was clicking some link and ended up following tweets I didn't know I was following. But this just seems to be at random times acquiring new people that I'm following and have never chosen to follow. The only common theme seems to be that these spammers (as most of them seem to be) are typically following thousands of people - often 10s of thousands.

Ah, ok. So the real answer is they don't make money...yet. Thanks. At least it wasn't that I couldn't identify a revenue stream but rather that there isn't one at the moment. :)
So, I wonder which direction they are likely to take when they do decide on a business model: Ads? Subscriptions? Both? (Or likely, ads on free accounts and none on subscription accounts?)
Anyone have any thoughts on something else entirely?

How does Twitter make money? There are no ads that I can see on the site and I can't think of any other revenue streams that would not violate their privacy policy. So, I'm curious, how is it that they pay for their servers and employees?
