Its basically a complicated process involving bribery, back room deals and suitcases full of money sent to the BumpTop HQ.
Just kidding. :P Its pretty simple. We have a big list of people who have signed up and with each iteration of the software we invite more people to try our beta. We want to get feedback from as wide a range of users as possible so we don't limit it to those with specific skillsets, etc.
Regarding system resources, we work hard to make the hit as minimal as possible. When BumpTop in the background it often runs at 0%. It is visually rich and so does take more resources when you are actively interacting with it. That said, we still have a relatively low memory footprint, and the main hardware requirement is a discrete graphics card. Some more recent Intel integrated works well too.
I really do appreciate your patience and we are sorry you've had to wait so long. You hit the nail on the head, we are scaling up our beta as quickly as we can but we need to be able to ensure a quality experience for everyone, and handle their support requests, etc.
Thanks for your support!

BumpTop BETA User selection process, system resources, window managementI am wondering if Bumptop should consider choosing BETA testers by their computer experience, specifically if BumpTop is generating various errors at this time. Experienced users (such as myself) are more capable of dealing with, and reporting errors, and finding solutions. I don't think that inexperienced users should be blocked out of the picture, but, they may have more difficulties. How does the current selection process work?
Also, I really would like a more general idea about how many system resources BumpTop will end up taking up, as well as how windows for applications are handled.
I would like to say that I am VERY glad to see an employee on the public site forum, this isn't something that you see very often.
How is the BumpTop development getting along so far? Is it considered "stable"? How long should we expect to wait before a "Download Now!" Button is added to the site, without requirement of an invitation code? ("Not Long", I will admit, really doesn't say much at this time... a lot of people, such as myself, have waited nearly a year, sometimes longer, for BumpTop to be released publicly. I myself am quite disappointed at this time, but, continue to wait, since I understand that there are probably quite a few quirks to figure out. I understand that, with a small amount of BETA testers, its easier to manage the bug reports, and direct user help.)
