Can I use another service to initiate Ping.fm's replication?
I am happy using Twitter as my interface, but I would like to use Ping.fm to replicate my Twitter post to all other services, including Blogs, Micro-blogs and Status Updates.
How do I set this up?

Inappropriate?A while back, Sean and I discussed "auto-blogging", where you would set up an rss feed directly into ping.fm. We found this to be a pretty hilarious idea but maybe we'd implement it in the future. Another user has suggested it's already possible by setting up an rss feed directly to your ping.fm posting e-mail address. In your case, you could feed your own twitter rss.
If you do, be VERY careful to disable twitter on your ping.fm account, or it would get stuck in a horrible infinite loop of posting.
I’m amused

sorry to be dense, but can you explain how to do the latter suggestion of setting up an rss feed to my ping.fm posting e-mail address? i have my twitter RSS url, i just need to know where to put it. thanks! -
Inappropriate?Currently, we don't offer a way to feed in RSS due to the possible infinite loops people could be stuck in. Until we dissolve a creative method of dealing with such scenario, we won't be offering that feature. That's not saying we won't ever though.

Inappropriate?I think it should be quite simple (for an expert coder). Gather the articles by RSS and then replicate them across all networks with a block on sending it to the domain it came from. The domain being the full address from http:// up to .com/.net etc
It wouldn't work however for social networks because the user identification is usually after the .com/.net so perhaps the answer is to block feed from social networks. -
Inappropriate?I have just set this up quite easily, but as Adam says, be very careful or you will annoy a lot of people and lose friends and followers fast. Here's how you do it:
1. On your Ping.fm dashboard, click the "Post by E-mail" link in the right column, that will show you your ping.fm email address.
2. Go to http://www.rssfwd.com/ and register an account using your Ping.fm email address.
3. Add your RSS feeds and save.
I suggest feeds from Digg, Flickr, and your blog, but never feeds from websites you do not run, unless the feed is just for your account only, because others may not share your interest.
Note if you currently have these feeds sent to Twitter via a service such as Twitter feed, then delete those feeds, as RSS FWD will send it via Ping.fm
I hope that helps. I've just set this up, I think I've done it right and hope now that I won't get a lot of messages going round!
I’m happy

are there any non-obvious settings i need to make to get this to work? I created the rssfwd account using the ping.fm email address and my twitter rss url, but nothing happened.. then i tried making another rssfwd account with one of my regular email addresses and the twitter feed just to see what was going on.. still not getting anything. rssfwd is set to "realtime", but in a day and a half nothing has come through it. :/ any thoughts? -
Inappropriate?RSSFWD works great. I've been using it for years now. I doubt that "real time" really means "REAL TIME" though... It is designed for email use, after all..... SO.... if you need instantaneous updates, you might be better off using a different method.
On another side note... Has anyone used / tried http://twitterfeed.com ?
I am trying to think about how it could be used in conjunction with any of this.
TRULY....
I am very happy posting EVERYTHING directly to the Ping.fm interface. It seems great! Very well done. Even the iPhone brower interface too!
However, I can see that one missing feature would be really nice....
WHAT IF....
When I post a "Blog" item (long-form) @b title^body ....blog item....
What if it would post my blog item to all of my blogs.... AND.... at the same time... post a "New Blog Post" announcement to my Twitter (micro-blog) sites....?
How are you guys (who are blogging directly from ping.fm) doing this now?
Are are you simply using http://twitterfeed.com for that purpose...?
AND ANOTHER QUESTION....
Are you guys posting your micro-blogging to your regular blogs as well...? Or only your long-form blog posts....
ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES are a great thing!
Thanks, Ping.FM Folks!!!!
I’m thankful for Ping.fm
-
yeah, I realize that the real time option isn't "real time", but it's been about 24 hours.. i've probably made a dozen posts on twitter and seen no action from rssfwd. meh. :/ -
The more I think about it.... The more I think that the best solution is....
Set up my BLOG posts (ONLY) to go to my Wordpress, Blogger, etc...
Set up my MICROBLOG posts (ONLY) to go to my Twitter, Yammer, etc....
And then simply use http://twitterfeed.com to announce my new BLOG posts (title and link) from my wordpress blog's rss feed... into my Twitter...
The only thing I would lose is.... My blog posts would not be announced anywhere other than Twitter.
Hmmmm.
It's either that........ Or MANUALLY announce every new blog post... via Ping.fm....
I know. It's not that much of a hassle. And how many long-form blog posts do I do, anyway.... -
Inappropriate?Try subscribing from some other feed.... like CNN.... to YOUR email address... (DO NOT send CNN to Ping!).... and see if RSSFWD is working... and if so, how "real time" it is....
-
hmm.. CNN feed has done nothing in 4 hours.. something is messed up.
