How to use ping.fm facebook application w/ multiple facebook pages & multiple ping.fm accounts?
So here's the deal. I work for an interactive agency running multiple social media campaigns for multiple clients. I have a couple clients w/ facebook fan pages (managed under one master facebook account), and each has a ping.fm account. My attempts so far to set this up have been met with failure. The ping.fm application seems to only recognize the first page & account I registered it with. Is there any solution for this problem? Thanks!

Inappropriate? As far as I can tell, you can only associate one ping.fm account with one facebook account, and inside of that, you can set up multiple facebook fanpages - however, no one would want to send the same update to multiple facebook fanpages. So you have to create a new ping.fm acct, AND a new facebook account, and tie those together - then choose whatever differentiated means of pinging them separately (different emails, different IMs, or log in to ping.fm at different times).
I’m not excited about this workaround.
-
Inappropriate?Just know that this isn't our limitation. It's how Facebook controls communications with one's account.
-
Inappropriate? That's what I figured - since all fanpages are tied to a master facebook account, and you can only auth any facebook app to a master facebook account (and not to a fanpage) - you would only be able to auth your ping.fm connection then to one facebook account.
-
Inappropriate?man that really sucks. I also manage several FB pages that are COMPLETELY different and have several ping.fm accounts and for everything else it works great, except for updating pages
I’m disappointed
-
Inappropriate?Except even updating pages on one Facebook account fails to work.
And ping.fm staff (Hello... Is anybody out there?) has yet to even try to fix this. If they had, then it would work. -
Inappropriate?is there any update on this? I have a facebook page (created under my personal fb profile) which is tied to a ping.fm account for that organization. however I want to have my own personal ping.fm that updates my profile (not the page) so that I can ping my own updates with my ping.fm, and ping the page updates through the organization ping.fm
can this be done?
I’m still lovin ping

Inappropriate? As far as Mr. Favor's last post, thing do work now.
For SelArom, you need to create an organization facebook *account* and make that account an administrator for the organization's fanpage. Then use ping.fm to post to the fanpage by adding the ping.fm facebook app to the organization's facebook account, not your own. Give that a shot...
- new fb acct for the org
- make the org acct an admin for the fanpage
- connect the org ping.fm to the org acct & fanpage
I’m feeling fat and sassy

Inappropriate?argh but facebook doesn't let me make a proflle for an organization, do I just make a dummy profile? that's kind of lame (not on ping.fm's part, but on stupid facebook who does everything back asswards!!)
I’m hating facebook
-
Inappropriate? That's correct - just create a new user, and set it up as you would an ordinary user, just fill in the details for your business. Yeah, it's lame of facebook, but I'm sure there are some technical limitations they have in place to make it so.
-
Inappropriate?I would just like to confirm that this does indeed work perfectly.
oh and also facebook sucks :)
thanks neo!
I’m grateful to ping and getsatisfaction!

Inappropriate? It's my understanding that the proposed workaround violates Facebook's Terms of Service. While it should work technically, Facebook's TOS says they can delete your account at any time for this violation. It would be best if Ping and Facebook allowed for some selective posting.

Inappropriate?re: the creating of a business/organization profile/account on Facebook -- they do have a business option - it's just not well advertised. Go here to check it out:
http://www.allfacebook.com/2009/06/fa...
However, I think it is also a violation of their terms for one person to have a business account and a personal profile. However, if the business acct/profile is for a real organization, it could be that this would be legit. Be aware also that a business profile is more limited than a personal one (i think it explains this at that link above).

Inappropriate? Thanks for saving me the time . . . Was wondering if this wasn't the current answer. I sort of get it, but you'd think someone at Facebook would have said, 'Hey, don't you think one person might want to admin more than one Fan Page ?'
-
Inappropriate? This is kind of a shame on Facebook's part. I have a setup where one account is admin for multiple pages and yeah, the post went to all of them. As Chip posted, having an account for each 'page' is a violation of the TOS. I actually like FB but their "pages" implementation could not suck more...and their documentation is all over the place and contradicts itself in several areas.
Bottom line, if you're an admin for multiple FB pages, best practice is to just set up Ping.fm for ONE of them. Sucks I know, but talk to FB--IF they answer your email.
I’m officially sick of Facebook pages

Inappropriate?I had the same problem and had to use my assistants facebook account once I set her up as an admin and linked my second ping account to her facebook account. It was a pain, but it worked.
-
Inappropriate?I'm really surprised that this issue is persisting for so long. Are we the exception? It seems natural that people will have multiple Facebook Pages and multiple twitter accounts but only one Facebook account.
On a personal level, we are all people with multiple "personas" and there is no reason for one persona to post the same message to all others. E.g. there is no reason for my technology-related posts to go to my page for our local cycling group. They don't care.
On a business level, many of us help support multiple business presences, whether they be our own, those of one or more family members, or clients. This is absurd that we are forced into a sledgehammer solution.
Has anybody found a work-a-round or another product that will address this problem?
I’m really, really frustrated at somebody!

Inappropriate?OK, for anyone who is following this, I found a workaround that avoids the Ping.fm bottleneck. The solution was to use the "Selective Twitter Status" Facebook application:
http://apps.facebook.com/selectivetwi...
From there, you can tell Facebook which Twitter accounts to connect to which Facebook Pages. As with most Facebook applications, you have to go around your elbow a half dozen times to make it work but it does work.
Since I really only care about blogs, Twitter and Facebook pages, I'm going with Wordpress, RSS, HootSuite and Selective Twitter for most of our applications. For the odd other cases, we'll still use Ping.fm but that's not very often.
I’m relieved
