Implement a generic protocol and request that other sites support it
Watching this overflowing suggestion stream - http://getsatisfaction.com/pingfm/top... - has made me wonder...
What if Ping.fm supported a generic status update protocol [1] and we sent requests to our (many) favourite sites-with-updates that *they* implement that protocol?
Then there's no need for Ping.fm to add services based on *their* unique APIs. I'd just add the relevant links/whatever to my list of services for Ping.fm to update (kind of like how you can add a generic RSS feed to FriendFeed)
[1] I don't know what the technical details are here. In that thread Jason Riedy mentioned XMPP, I mentioned other IM protocols, ItaniKnight mentioned XML-RPC. Perhaps Ping.fm could *create* such a protcol?

Inappropriate?Fantastic feedback. This is actually an idea already being discussed. Will have a lot to do with our business development page I have yet to finish (!)
Thanks! -
Inappropriate?just by using xmlrpc, it mean ping.fm already support (maybe) 99% of all blogging platform
