Here's one I made in C#, It's just a single exe and dll, no big ugly install package. (requires .net framework 2.0, most people have it already).

This is not our "official" desktop application since Sean still thinks it needs to be prettier. I think it's awesome though, especially for pinging at work, it has a very small interface that people won't even notice if they're watching over your shoulder. You can also use Windows Key + P to bring it up without using the mouse.
The DLL source if available on the ping.fm developer forum if anyone is interested.

Inappropriate?I was in the process of making one when we decided to make a developer API.. I want to re-make it using the API and perhaps even release it open source. It's on the list but I might move it up in priority now.
It won't be a "cool" adobe air app, or vista sidebar, just a plain desktop app for windows (not linux or mac).. Mainly as an example of how to make one, but it will be decent.

Cool, that's all I'm looking for, is a plain desktop app. Thanks! -

PERFECT. Thanks a lot! -
Exactly what I needed! Thanks! The only thing is when I want to "exit" the whole program "goes away" and I have to re-install! -
When you download select "save" instead of open, then save it to your desktop or documents and you can run it directly from there. -
Saving the app key doesn't seem to work for me, any ideas? Does it create a .config file I can edit manually? -
Sounds like you may not have rights on the computer. If you login as admin you should be able to set it, then switch back to your normal account to use it. -
Aye - that worked - only had to run it as administrator once. Thanks :) -
I agree! j/k -
Inappropriate?Found a minor bug in the application.. please download the updated version (1.0.0.1) from the same location. I may be adding some features to it later, if anyone has any suggestions let me know.

Hi Adam - the app is great. Thanks for taking the time to make it. Surprisingly I can't think of any way it can be improved. Simple is best. -
Revise the above feedback. It really is necessary to know when you reach the 140 character mark. Would be great to have that. -
Yeah, I noticed that too when I started using it more. I'll add that. -
I'm not sure whether this is technically possible - but in Twitter where it says " 15 minutes ago from Ping.fm " could the 'from' be 'from Ping.fm Windows App'. Would help to show usage stats and spread word about the app virally. I'm also passively tracking which posting mechanisms I use most. -
I think "from ping.fm" is enough to spread the word that way. We could do from ping.fm aim, gtalk, iphone, email, desktop, api, etc.. but ping.fm is much simpler (twitter has to approve each one). We have our own internal metrics for where the source is. -
Is it me, or does adding a * before a URL (to avoid shortening) not work from the app??? Regardless of that, a really cool feature would be to calculate the word count assuming the URL will be shortened (when there is no *). Otherwise you have to calculate manually.
Anyway, great app as it is. I use it a lot. Great for speed reporting earthquakes in Japan :-) -
Inappropriate?Added character counter (it only starts counting when you get to 50). Same download location.

Great. Thanks! -

-

Inappropriate?Just in case you were abou to try.....
Doesn't work in Fedora in Wine 0.9.57 -
Inappropriate?Ping is now running great as a standalone app in Prism
Prism is Mozilla's alternative to Adobe Air
http://labs.mozilla.com/2007/10/prism/
Excellent in Linux and Windows so far..........

Inappropriate? If anyone is on the Mac platform, check out Fluid (http://fluidapp.com) which works nicely with Pingout.
It's able to run any website and create an application for it.
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?Fluid works great for me. The only problem now is that I still need a seperate app to see other peoples tweets, pings etc
I’m unsure
-
Inappropriate?I use Pidgin for all of my Ping.fm needs. Just add Ping.fm as an friend on msn, gtalk, yahoo etc. and post to ping from your favorite IM. (Pidgin, MSN,Yahoo,GTalk etc.)

Inappropriate?PingFMDesktop doesn't support Central European characters ... čšž. Is there a way to fix this?
I’m sad

Inappropriate? If you use Twitter, try the "Spaz" Twitter software client. It connects to Ping.fm which resends the message to all your networks. It use Adobe Air, so it works on Windows as well as Mac and you can get it here:
