Is there an iPhone Application planned for future release?
Are you going to do an iPhone Application?
The Facebook & Twitter Applications are nice, but I still use my iPhone version of a web page to do my status updates via Ping.fm so it goes to all the social network sites.
Currently, if I want to post a picture, I have to actually email it to my ping.fm account.
I think it would be awesome if ping.fm created an iPhone application. In this application, I'd love the following features.
1) For it to track the number of characters typed as we go along (missing from the web version, as you have to click done typing to get an updated count before submitting.)
2) The ability to either snap a photo directly from the camera or choose one of the photos on the iphone already and upload it along with a status update. Much like emailing a photo to the ping.fm email service where my subject line is used for the status update.
3) I'd love it if Ping.fm would start including an option to add the "LOCATION" to update services that we use with our current location.
4) I'd also like the ability to do a shortened URL for links
5) I'd also like to be able to browse my most recent Ping.fm updates.
This would be a good start for an awesome application.

Inappropriate?Great Question Cliff! please Ping please!
-
Inappropriate?I was just about to ask this myself. How long till the iPhone app comes out!
-
Inappropriate? The biggest would be if location would update service like bk. How much easier would things be if ping updated location too!
-
Inappropriate?I agree an iphone app with location updates would be SWEET! The most important thing is the get the app up though and then add features.
-
Inappropriate? The most basic thing is a way to send messages to ping.fm without having to load the HTML page first. That would be a great first step.
-
Inappropriate?Agreed, this would be very nice!
-
Inappropriate?Isn't http://ping.fm/mobile/ already a iPhone Application?

Inappropriate?I secont RCourtade
"For iPhone and iPod Touch users, we've developed an optimized version of the site for you guys as well. You can access it by visiting "i.ping.fm" from your iPhone or iPod touch. "
I’m awesome

Inappropriate?A native app is faster!
Also a native app will cache a message if you have no signal or its weak.
If you guys dont someone else will... -
Inappropriate? It is a "Web Application." An actual applciation ON THE PHONE would drop the required time to download the Ping website data all together. It would be stored in the app. Somtimes even Ping mobile takes a few seconds, as much as 15 to 20 seconds to load over edge and 3G..
Not to mention, with a Ping iPhone App, they could also introduce the abilty to attach photos to upload rather than having to email them from the iphone.
They could also introduce Location Based Services to communicate our location to services like Bright Kite and Twitter.
There are a few other features they could do with an iPhone App that CANT BE DONE with a Web App
I’m passionate

Inappropriate?In due time.

Inappropriate?Chris Pirillo (www.chris.pirillo.com) mentioned to those in the ping.fm irc once that someone emailed him telling him that they were making an iphone app for it.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Take as long as you want... But know that the first company to bring this functionality to market will most likely be the industry leader. That is the nature of business.
Unless Facebook decides to integrate this functionality into their API and then they will be the market leader based on sheer number of installed users. -
Inappropriate? This can go two ways really. We can develop the official app, which we have planned. Or, someone could make one to tie into our API. We've had a couple people request API keys for this but have nothing surface yet.
It's in high demand, so I think we will be moving on it very soon. -
Inappropriate?I think it would build confidence and awareness of Ping.fm for this to be an official app. Since you already have the web app, it is the next logical step.
I’m confident

Inappropriate?I say develop an open source in house version that can be extended by other programmers. The only way this product will be able to compete long term is to make it the best one out there.
I expect the large social networking sites as well as Twitter will be incorporating many of these features into their apps.
Why would joe user use ping.fm when he can use Facebooks built in functionality.
The future lies in getting all these different platforms to work together in as many ways possible, If you guys can work with open standards that facilitate this and develop the best product then your future looks bright.
From what I have seen so far you are well on your way... The iPhone being a glaring omission to this of course... -
joe user would use ping.fm because it is the one that updates all of them. While there are benefits to an open platform, not all of the sites Ping works with are open either, APIs provide reasonably good interoperability including to Ping's service itself. So I would think an ambitious coder could already get to work on something, but personally I'm looking forward to the "official" app. "One Ping to rule them all!" -
Inappropriate?Plus one!!
-
Inappropriate? The web app works, the native iPhone app would be a tipping point because the experience would be that much more robust. If there's any way to fast track it, I don't see anything more valuable at this point.
Android is right around the corner too...
I’m anxious
