Ping.Fm Desktop Widget is ready
My Ping.fm Adobe Air Desktop Widget for Mac, Widows and linux. Is finally ready and will be officially released in the next public beta August 14. As a result you need a beta code to be able to get a download of the app... So please go to http://anthonykosednar.com/pingfm/ to put your email on the beta code waiting list. Now this widget features osting to status, micro-blog, blog all from your desktop in addition to pingpic which allows you to ping pictures from your desktop. Here is an example of one of those pings: http://twitter.com/gamers600/statuses... ... please note that pingpic as well as the rest of the app is still being added on to frequently so a lot more features will be added. All my other desktop widgets are doing pretty good too and should be released in closed beta soon...... The only requirement of the widget is that you have adobe air installed on your computer if not then you will be prompted to install it.
If you have any questions about it you may email me at anthony@anthonykosednar.com
Hope you enjoy......

* Please note: AT the moment I do not recommend using adobe air on linux as it is still in beta and is still very buggy if you want to use a desktop widget for ping.fm I recommend waiting till one of the future releases of other types of my widgets, like: yahoo desktop widget, Google desktop widget. (As a side note: Also I will be releasing a pingfm sidebar widget too)

hmm thats weird because my system says you invite was sent a couple months ago...u must not have gotten it or my system had an error I sent you a new one just now though. Sorry for any troubles. -
thank @antoonhyk I did sign up this time... and try to download the widget but it says... "sorry, an error was ocurred" and say about the air file is damaged and try again... I did try 6 times but I got the same problem. -
Nevermind... the reason why wasn't working was because I was using ubuntu hardy heron and the air app wasn't working there... I did work fine in windows vista. -
Inappropriate? Please note though that I will be changing the beta code after Friday so if you have a beta code right now use it before its expired.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Pingpic will be reactivated at the end of the month, so people will be able to pingpics again using our pingpic service (for our app). We also will be adding recent pots back along with adding pinging to a specific service or custom trigger. We also just today added many hidden Easter eggs to the app :) if no one finds it out soon then we will announce what it is. Other than that the latest beta code for our app is "maythepingbewithyou" so go to http://anthonykosednar.com/pingfm/?i=... if you want to register an account and get the app. Please note that that after Friday August 29, 2008 this beta code nor link will work as a result of us planning to change our beta code this Saturday.

Inappropriate?@uChari your welcome I think you will be pleased with some of the new updates I'm adding to the widget today (And the best part is no downloads are required for this update because of the desing of my widget :) ).

Inappropriate?Linux support - not likely: "Sorry, your platform is not supported." (OpenSUSE 11.0 with Firefox).
It's a nice idea but unworkable at the moment.
I’m angry

Inappropriate?@Julian Ya at the moment the current widget works on only a couple of lnux machines but is very buggy or doesn't work on the rest. This is a result of adobe. As a result we are making a yahoo widget, and google desktop widget along with some onther stuff to make it so a more bigger audience can use our widget. I have a solution that you can use for now though Julian involving Firefox and an extension of it that can make a widget on your computer. Its still under testing though its a temporary widget for Linux that is planned to be available till a more solid linux support is released. I will post it here when its done...first I am going to have Rollz try it out first maybe or someone else if rollz doesn't want to. other than that the yahoo widget is my big focus right now and its actually proving to be quite hard.
I’m undecided
-
yup am still willing and waiting for the yahoo widget :D hopefully it wont be long till i can post from my desktop :D -
Inappropriate? As a follow up to myself I made a mac widget for the mac platform that I have been using myself because I have a mac now in addition to a Linux and a windows, I just use the mac more often then the other stuff because its a laptop and the others are desktops. So I was going through some Linux stuff and I found out you can run apple widgets, vista gadgets and a lot of theses other widgets on Linux by using this free software called Jackfield, (Found at http://www.kryogenix.org/code/jackfield/ ). As a result I am going to release the apple widget of my ping.fm widget even though I have never announced it of course its going to take my some time to get it to the point to where all of my custom hacks to my own widget are out but after that you can install the widget on your mac or Linux and still use the same login information and same setup as the adobe air widget which is one of my main goals for all of my widgets which my not happen. Another solution I found that I might make possible is Firefox prisms. Now prisms doesn't work on linux but works on windows, as a result the person would have to install wine then install Firefox (windows version) and then add the prism extension then get a URL from me type it in to there windows Firefox version, (not linux), and then make it a prism. This is hard work so I'm just gonna go with the jackfield solution for now.
Have any questions or comments? I guess just post them to here then.
Hopefully this linux solution will work for now, as a linux fan I have always loved it, as a result I want to make my widget work on it no matter what. Its just hard sometimes to do it.

Inappropriate?Works Great , thanks alot! Though is the window movable? or maybe its a bug for me cuz i cnt move it , anyhow othr thn that I love it!
I’m Glad
-
Inappropriate?@kidguru Thanks for the nice comments. Yes the window is not moveable which s kinda a flaw that I am trying to fix at the moment. We also are in the process of adding and fixing a lot of other bugs.....while adding more features

Inappropriate?Ok i just did a ton of touch-ups and more on the ping.fm desktop widget...as a result it now has even a logout button on the home screen so u cna use different accounts. I also fixed the access without logging in bug so now no one can "accidentally" get in with out logging in. I also reactivate the recent page and its functions....now all that is left is for me to reactivate pingpic and then i will release my ping.fm mac widget which can be used on linux using a program that i just forgot what it was called...but anyways linux users will be able to now use the program through another program, until I get the yahoo, and google widgets made.
Oh and about not being able to move around the widget. That is going to change in the next release of the widget which is planned sometime next week. In the new release the startup page will be change and the widget's size will be increased slightly so the scroll bar doesn't appear that often. I am also though going to put the system chrome on the widget so as a result you can use it. The only draw back is on windows computers it doesn't look good at the top. (It has the ugly explorer bar that you have on most Windows), but you will be able to move it around. If your one of those user's like me though that like the thing to look good then I might offer a second version of the widget called chrome-less (without this explorer bar thing on windows), if there is enough community input. As a result though the widget will not be able to be moved around.
So tell what you think !!!
Another thing that is going to be fixed it Mac's automatically decompressing the .air file on download thinking its a .zip file and saving it as that. To fix this I am making an install little widget like thingy that lets you install the program from your browser sorta (it actually launches the install of adobe air automatically from a browser command and other stuff), but that should be fixed when I roll that out with the new widget next week....untill now download the file....get the .zip file out of your trash...then rename it to have a .air extension instead of a .zip .
Oh and the next version of the widget (the one thatz moveable) would be released to day but I got a mac recently and I'm kinda new to macs so I'm still tryign to figure ot how to use the adobe sdk for mac. If I can't figure it out. I'll just boot up my old Win XP and just build it the install file on that.
In other news I have been working very hard on pingfeeder and hope to get that up soon by the end of the month at the latest. How I mange to do all of this and school I don't know.
Thanks for all the feedback you have given.
