Ping.Fm down?
Is it just me or is Ping.Fm down? I usually update via email and the email bounced. So, I went to the Ping.fm site, and I see a website holder page. What is going on?

Just to set everyone at ease, we are simply waiting on GoDaddy to update their end so that this mess becomes history. I've been in direct contact with them. Actually, the office of the President of GoDaddy called me personally ensuring that they are working on this with a high priority.
Everyone can do us a favor by just spreading the word that everything in power is being done to correct this. And be known that we aren't going anywhere. This isn't us leaving, nor shutting down. This is a problem that has come between service provider and client. It's unfortunate, but it happens.
This should all go away any time now.
Thanks for your continued support through some wrenches in the system. Keep on pingin! (Bots still work.)

Inappropriate?Looks like they may not have renewed their domain, or possibly someone hijacked it.
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?I just saw this on their Plurk page: "If you're seeing "GoDaddy" pages, we're in the midst of some transferring and they've seemingly "screwed us." Should fix momentarily."
I’m anxious
-
Inappropriate? The website is back up, but it seems the API interface is out, at least Ubiquity can't talk to it right now...
I’m sad

It's still down for me. I think whatever changes happened with their domain are still being propagated across the Internet and name servers.
I've been screwed by GoDaddy on several occasions, so I feel Ping.fm's pain. -
Inappropriate? The site was unreachable for a while. In the last few days, I have also seen the XMPP interface unresponsive quite a few times.
We should start tracking them - maybe using a script to post XMPP messages at regular intervals and check that they appear at the other end on the publication sites.
I’m anxious
-
Inappropriate? The site is still down for me (I'm using OpenDNS for my DNS). It looks like I'm still able to post via the google chat bot.
So how did GoDaddy "screw" you? I've used them for domain registration, but never hosting, for years.

I’m sad
-
I used them to host my website for a while.
GoDaddy would frequently change something with their hosting servers which would cause the DNS records to change. This would cause my site to go down for 24-48 hours. They would do this without any notice to me at all.
Once my site was down for a week because they changed something without telling me. They screwed something up though, so we had to wait until the first change propagated across the Internet (about 48 hours), then correct their mistake which they screwed up again (another 48 hours), then try to fix their fix (another 48 hours).
Their tech support is very hit or miss. Sometimes you get someone knowledgeable, but often time you get someone who has no business being in tech support. The latter often makes the problem worse.
Did I mention they'd do these changes WITH NO NOTICE??? -
Inappropriate?I am still down but got this response from pingfm on Twitter:
" pingfm Apparently we are waiting on a "paperwork correction" that has to be "escalated" in order to be resolved. Hang in there, pingers! 16 minutes ago from Ping.fm "
Talk about attentive and responsive.
I’m concerned but hopeful
-
I swear on all that is unholy, but GoDaddy has got to be the WORST company in America for domain registrations and web hosting. Seriously! Their prices aren't even that competitive. -
Inappropriate?GoDaddy Sucks
-
Inappropriate?I'm still down as well!
-
Inappropriate?ping.fm still resolves to 68.178.232.100 (parkwebwin-v01.prod.mesa1.secureserver.net )
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?oddly, i still get ping.fm fine and i get everything on my blog posted through ping just fine. but i've been told by people in other places nationwide that some get the godaddy, some don't. it appears to be random as to who's getting it and who's not.
I’m unconcerned
-
same here. never stopped working (i'm in portugal, if that matters) -
Inappropriate?I got GPS in my sphicter. asking about Ping.fm. It says, "Where did that crap go?" There is something kind of kinky about Ping.fm now being
... everything is failing on me 2day. net connection. ping.fm. viagara.
I’m silly

thanks Sean. I now realize how much more I like your product to Hellotxt. I tried it for a few hours... Ping.fm is better. the blog posts rock. I wouldn't care unless I loved Ping.fm. there is no substitute if it works... -
This makes me realise, I'd happily pay $20/yr for the service. Don't know if there are cash flow issues, but why not give me the option to be a "ping.fm pro pinger", I'll put my hand in my wallet... -
Thanks for the update, and good luck! -

I would pay for ping.fm also -
Inappropriate?*ahem* Use NameCheap next time. GoDaddy has screwed me over uncountable times as well.
I hope Ping.fm is restored soon.
-
Inappropriate?Uhh... DownDoggy is just another one of GoDaddy's sites. Blatantly similar design, and the companies behind it are the same.
-
Inappropriate?I have heard that this is not an uncommon thing for GoDaddy. Havent experienced it myself, just heard.
-
Inappropriate?I've been transferring domains recently between hosts and understand all the authorisation codes required, there is also paperwork with any change of ownership of the domain.
When it is a country specific domain like .fr, .de or .fm, as in ping.fm, then the paperwork needs to be printed and posted and that can causes problems if someone, either the sender or the host transferring or the host receiving, mistypes something. In some situations, the regulator (ICANN in America, Nominet in the UK) legally needs to be notified.
Personally I am transferring my international domains (.com, .net etc) to GoDaddy as they're the cheapest for those domains and I've never had a problem with them in the year that I've used them. My hosting however is with another company and my UK domains are with a third company.
I'm sure it will be sorted soon and all the connections will be back up and running. I guess it will be more cost effective, and perhaps more reliable (not that I've ever found ping.fm offline before).
I'm happy because I know it's coming back and I empathise because I know it's frustrating waiting unable to do anything while you wait.
I’m happy

You might want to read www.NoDaddy.com first before you invest much more into GoDaddy. GoDaddy will screw you over at the tip of a hat. -
Inappropriate?I miss Ping.fm!
-
Inappropriate?GoDaddy messed me up enough that I switched to pair.net, and I'm INFINITELY happier.
I’m happy to be away from GoDaddy.com
-
Inappropriate?the mobile website for the iPhone and the bot within Digsby have worked fine for me all day
I’m chillin'
-
Inappropriate?I posted a link to this URI on my blog. Hope it helps and good luck getting it back up and running ASAP.
I’m missing the service
-
no is not? -
Well it was working when I posted, now it isn't. :( -
Inappropriate?Let's hope ping.fm is up quickly. I blogged this at
http://lab209.com/pingfm-is-a-parked-... -
Inappropriate?Awe! It just went down for me! :( It was working fine yesterday. Here's to waitin', and gotta love those bots! (Could you guys throw in a Skype bot as we're waiting? LOL)
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate? Some DNS servers still resolve ping.fm to the old IP (69.44.44.70), not to the GoDaddy' parked one (68.178.232.100).
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate? Was it godaddy or someone Ping.fm was transferring FROM? http://getsatisfaction.com/pingfm/top...
-
Inappropriate? So it's been down for nearly a day now. I've not been a GoDaddy fan and this clinches it.
Perhaps someone could post the actual IP address for the servers so that we could have a workaround until the DNSchanges arre made and propagated?
I’m ambivilent
-
Here you go: 69.44.44.70 -
@quack: Didn't work for me. Still gives the godaddy page. -
Did you add it to your hosts file? If you type it directly into your browser it'll (probably) redirect you to the holding page. -
Inappropriate?whoever did this to ping.fm, their whole family generation should burn in hell!
I’m pissed off
-
Inappropriate?I'm just hoping that at some point all the pings I sent through tonight will come through. I use ping.fm the way some people use flickr or twitpic, as a sort of moblog, to hold my pictures, etc.
Most disappointing. I'll probably have to look at a new solution. :(
I’m so !#$%!@#$% bummed and frustrated.
-
Inappropriate?@4thawallan there's no need to be disappointed. The problem Ping.fm encountered is a registrar transfer issue and eventually the paper work will be straighten out, and the DNS around the world will be updated and things will be back to normal.
In the mean time HeloTxt.com is a good alternative, but I still prefer Ping.fm.
I’m indifferent
-
Whether or not there's a "need" to be disappointed is beside the point. I ping'ed from an event this evening, expecting to return home and find that the pictures and text I posted would be waiting for me on my ping dashboard, and on the various services to which I posted them. This did not occur as I expected, and thus, I am disappointed. Whether or not the problem gets fixed will not change the fact that I am now, as of this moment, disappointed. -
Inappropriate?GoDaddy is clearly losing credibility as a registrar of choice. Check out this blog post. http://snipurl.com/4kbz9

Inappropriate?I'm glad the bots still work; I can transform URLs myself since the Ping.fm redirectors are currently down. Maybe Ping.fm could add an option to the bot that, if the site should go down, it will transform the URLs to is.gd or tinyurl instead?
I’m noncommital.
-
Inappropriate?Still not working here, but DNS probably hasn't propagated if the issues has been fixed.
-
Inappropriate?Adding 69.44.44.70 to your hosts file works for me.
I’m getting bored with the GoDaddy holding page
-
Inappropriate?I had no idea how hard it was to update my status interwebs-wide without ping. Please come back!
I’m using twitter I guess
-
Inappropriate?DNS is not rocket science.
Domain Registrations aren't rocket science.
What is the frakking TTL for the domain set to, 1 Week?
This is wholesale rediculous for GoDadddy to frak things up as bad as they've done.
I'm telling you folks, you've got to read [duplicate link removed] ... why would ANYONE use GoDaddy for anything "important" is beyond me.
GoDaddy shut down a very influential Information Security website by yanking its domain. Not because of some court order. Not because of some government complaint. Not because of any law enforcement complaint.
Because MySpace.com ** COMPLAINED **.
Why would ANYONE trust GoDaddy after that incident is beyond me. -
Inappropriate?this is why I freaking HATE go daddy... they are atrocious, and when it comes to problem solving they are about as quick and passionate as a rusty metal brick
I’m hateful to go daddy

I can confirm that ping.fm is now been propagated to OpenDNS's system. -
Way to propagate! -
Inappropriate?Ping is back, I am smiling, and the world just got a little bit brighter. Looks like (for the less cynical of us) that the fault was on the .fm controller and not Go Daddy. That fodder for another flame rant. I'm just happy its over...for now.
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?PRAISE THE UNIVERSE!!! Poor Ping.fm Peeps! Can you imagine the craziness at their office yesterday? Thank you to Sean & Crew. Keep up the great work!
I’m in the mood for love.

Inappropriate?Praise the lord, you are back! And I am really really happy because of this.

Hey honey. -

Go make your bed! -
HAHA @ jyoseph -
Inappropriate?I emailed GoDaddy asking for assurance that they will not screw up my domains. I must have got one of the less clever people as they thought I was from ping.fm even though I didn't suggest owning ping.fm in anyway.
I’m anxious
-
HAHA! What did they say to you? They thought you were from Ping.fm?! -
I said "I have just transferred a number of domain names that are crucial to my business, since then I have been reading a lot of bad publicity. I was alerted to this on Twitter, which GoDaddy appears to ignore".
I gave them links to this discussion and later in the email I said:
" The fact you're taking so long to fix ping.fm suggest the accusations could be right.".
I never mentioned Ping.fm in any other part of the email.
___________________
Their response: "If you would me to investigate the issue on your domain ping.fm, please respond back with the last 4 digits of a credit card, PayPal Billing Agreement/Account Number".
___________________
I replied doing my best not to question their intelligence(!) and I'm now waiting for their reply. I'm glad my host is another company - their support teams takes all of five minutes to reply, and usually gets it right!! I want GoDaddy to tell me they won't screw things up for, then if they do, I will hold them accountable. -
Inappropriate?Glad the site seems to be working again, but I'll be happier when email pings work again. I suppose it could just be a matter of my ISP's DNS servers catching up or emails retrying or whatever, but it's well over 16 hours since I sent some of them and they still haven't shown up.
I’m still pretty bummed.
-
Inappropriate?I have tried on and off for the past month or so now and still find it impossible to login to PING.FM
What the hell is going on?
I’m frustrated beyond belief
-
That doesn't seem connected to this ticket, you're probably better of starting a new ticket for that. You may want to include more information as well such as why resetting your password doesn't work. -
Have you tried changing your password? Or resetting it? -
Inappropriate?i've reset my phone code 5 times and not working. i have sprint. anyone else have sprint that's not working?
