Ping.fm site not showing pictures on IE for Windows Mobile 6
I have trouble with the Ping.fm site from my Windows Mobile 6 browser. The Ping.fm logo is ridiculously too big for the page on a small screen for starters, but more importantly the main image on pages like this one http://ping.fm/p/2IXBE does not even appear. I get the small navigation images at the top, but the main image is simply absent on Internet Explorer for Windows Mobile 6 on an HTC Tilt (AT&T Tilt).
Do you have any plans for make a mobile version of the site so I can see images on my phone in addition to sending them from my phone? I'd REALLY appreciate the site defaulting to m.pingfm.com or something like that for an optimized small-screen experience when the site detects I'm coming from a phone browser like IE for WM6.
Thanks and let me know!!!

Adam,
Unfortunately that does not solve the problem at all! (I think perhaps you read my question too quickly)
m.ping.fm does not show pictures, which is the problem I'm referring to. I'd like to be able to view the picture pages like http://ping.fm/p/2IXBE from my mobile device in a way which is optimized for viewing on a mobile device.
When I click a link like http://ping.fm/p/2IXBE from my phone, the web server should automatically detect that my browser is mobile and automatically redirect to http://m.ping.fm/p/2IXBE or some equivalent.
Right now the picture pages render terribly on IE for Windows Mobile 6 and the alternative you mentioned (m.ping.com) has no pictures at all!!!
There are a lot of sites (e.g. flickr.com, youtube.com, etc) that render for mobile automatically based on the browser you're using. It's kind of important for mobile device users! -

Inappropriate?I read it a few times but was never clear if you were aware of our mobile version at all. We do not have a fully functional mobile version of the site, just a way to send messages. This is something for Sean to look into expanding.
-
A fully functional mobile version of the site would be excellent, especially considering that you're largely targeting the mobile market with status updates (most of the updates I make are from my mobile device since I'm not always in front of my computer).
I hope Sean looks in to it! (I think you could have some quick success by just making the logo, navigation pictures, and main picture a bit smaller when you detect a mobile browser and otherwise leaving everything else the same).
Thanks! -
Inappropriate? The problem is when followers on Twitter click on the ping.fm link to the picture in Twitter on a mobile browser they do not get to view the picture. It looks like the view picture page uses some sort of javascript to show the picture. It doesn't show in Internet Explorer or Opera Mobile.
Like Cadill says above, ping.fm/p/ should redirect to a non-javascript site or to just the picture when viewed from a mobile browser.
I’m sad

Inappropriate?Gozar is right.
I use my mobile phone for posting pictures to ping.fm all the time, but unfortunately I cannot use the phone to actually look at the pictures I've posted.
Has there been any progress on creating a mobile version of the media pages and image pages? We're waiting hopefully!

Inappropriate?Yes another example of that ping.fm photo not being twitter-friendly.

I think you mean "mobile-friendly". This doesn't really have anything to do with Twitter... I hope Ping.fm staff are still reading this thread, 'cause Adam (who usually rocks) has marked it resolved already, even though technically it's NOT :) -
Inappropriate?@Cadill
NOPE.
Go back and look at those photo pages. What to YOU screams out, "Hey, check out this awesome Twitter APP!" Now look at something like twitpic. Those pages are very obviously focused on sharing and networking.
Doesn't matter much for me anymore since I stopped using ping.fm for photo posting. Hey, at least the blog posting and status posting is awesome.
Ping.fm is a Jack of all trades and master of most. They're definitely ahead of the curve. -
I love ping.fm. It's great. I use it to post both status + pictures. But I would love to be able to see my posts from the same phone that I use to post them. I hope they decide to optimize the photo pages so they can be viewed on mobile browsers. -
Inappropriate?Just a bump for the question, which is not solved. ping.fm/p/ links for pictures do not show the picture when viewed from a mobile browser such as those used on Windows Mobile devices (Internet Explorer and Opera Mobile).
I’m sad.

Gozar is right, I still can't view ping.fm pics on my mobile browser. Perhaps we should start this question over again, since maybe since they marked this problem "solved", they aren't looking at this thread anymore? -
Inappropriate?I would suggest creating a new topic then linking to this one. They probably have a rule to ignore solved topics or maybe their eyes skip them or whatever.
In fact, yes, create a new topic. But make sure you link to this one so that they know it's not new.
Also, I don't have WM6 but maybe some random guy confused this with IE6 Desktop. You never know. -
we get an email on every message posted here. -
Oops, sorry Adam, we didn't mean to spam you. We thought maybe once you marked a problem solved you didn't see it any more. -
Somehow I doubt he would have responded otherwise. I stick to my guns! -
Be nice! Adam rules!
Adam, is making the ping.fm media page available on mobile browsers something that ping.fm is working on? Is there hope? We really think it would make ping.fm 150% better (think of all the extra customers viewing the pages!).
Thanks. -
I've got nothing but love for Adam, Cadill. But I'm also truthful. When your friend makes you dinner and it's terrible do you lie and tell them you enjoyed it or are you honest with them? Same deal.
Those media pages are a black hole. At least with twitpic it's very obvious that you can comment on the photo and your followers will see a link to your photo and thus the photo growls virally. The ping.fm pages are a blackhole so that type of thing is impossible. People look, close the browser, then leave.
But hey, I don't use Ping.fm for that anymore. :) -
Utils - what do you use instead of ping.fm? -
I send an e-mail to both myspace and flick. And flickr posts the photo link to twitter. Also when you e-mail myspace they use the title from your e-mail. Bonus! -
Inappropriate?OK I've created a new thread here: http://bit.ly/3k2Yib
Maybe Ping.fm will see it and realize that the problem is not resolved.
If you want to display the ping.fm site on your mobile browser and see your images, please go over to that thread and let Ping.fm know that you have the same problem/desire.
Thanks!
