Status vs Microblog - I do not care - please just make it work and easy
I do not like the changes with status vs microblog vs blogging ...I want to go to one site, post one thing, and have it show up where I posted. Now I have to remember which of the three categories does what. Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace status' change, but LinkedIn and Plaxo don't.
What the heck have you guys done? How about letting me pick what happens in the dashboard. Which sites get updated and where, and then I can do this without thinking. Custom triggers are nice, but stop making the default functionality so hard.
This is a big step back.

Inappropriate?Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, and LinkedIn do status. If you are using these services, you should be doing status updates. We do not currently support plaxo.
If you were using blogger, livejournal, pownce, and tumblr, you would be doing a microblog.
It is very unlikely you would want to send the exact same message to a microblog and a status. Even if you wanted to update both, the wording of the message should be different.
The new methods are, without a doubt, a step in the right direction. It's just a matter of understanding how they work and why. -
I appreciate the distinction, but I would like to see it spelled out somewhere on the site - I'll never keep it straight as to what network uses status or micro-blog. -
Oh wait, I just saw that I can choose that myself - sorry... -
Inappropriate?I'm going to have to agree with the original poster. I want it to just work. I don't care if my status update looks funny on a micro-blog. At the very least, let us configure what the default is.
"If you don't include a trigger from below in your message, your messaage will be an assumed micro-blog."
This is what I would like to see be configurable. Personally, I'm only using ping.fm for status updates so I want this to be the default without having to remember to throw a trigger in the front.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate? We have been planning this for a few days now. It should be up very soon.

Inappropriate?I see that setting, but it does not change the default in the drop down on the dashboard. for feature to be complete, that step is needed.
I would still like to see the ability to see which sites get updated by default, and let me mix and match those three catagories -
Inappropriate?@johnhead Great idea. I didn't even think of that. I will change the defaults to reflect on all dropdowns. Dashboard, iPhone, mobile and Facebook app.
Thanks!

working on that.
>>and let me mix and match those three catagories
This should not be necessary. It may seem simple but it would be a ton of work, and in the end, it would probably cause more confusion than good. If you can give an example of a specific logical configuration we do not accommodate for, we can look into making it work that way.
I’m confident

Inappropriate?Sean and Adam, the defaulting is a good step, but I'm not sure it fully answers the original post. I'm cross-posting this from http://getsatisfaction.com/pingfm/top... so I apologize if that violates site etiquette.

Ok, right now I'm using ping.fm for MySpace, Pownce, Twitter (Facebook is then automatically updated by Twitter but that's neither here nor their), and LiveJournal.
The first three have status updates as an option along with either blogging (MySpace) or Micro-blogging (the other two). LiveJournal doesn't have a status update option but does have both Micro-blogging and Blogging.
In list form:
MySpace: Status + Blogging
Pownce: Status + Micro-blog
Twitter: Status + Micro-blog
LiveJournal: Blogging + Micro-blog
Now completely aside from my issue of not wanting to have to remember triggers, it looks like I can not update all 4 places with one post. If I post a status update, it will post to MySpace, Pownce, and Twitter, but not LJ. If I post a Micro-blog, it will update all but MySpace.
Is this a correct interpretation? If so, I'm _not_ a fan...
Thanks.

The original post talks about not being able to post to all (desired) places with a single post. If my interpretation stated above is correct, this continues to be an issue.
Thanks again.
I’m unsure

Inappropriate?Since MySpace does not support microblogging and LiveJournal does not support status updates, your analysys is correct. Ping.fm does not determine what methods other services support, they do, we just integrate where we can.
It sounds like you are doing statuses more than microblogs. I would assume you do not want your microblogs going to your myspace status field, so it may be more logical to post status updates to your livejournal blog. Neither way makes perfect sense, but we could allow an option to post status updates to a livejournal blog field.
I’m unsure

Inappropriate?I think it would be great to *allow* us to post statuses into blogging or micro-blogging fields. that would help a lot. i think whatever cross-pollination is possible, we need it.
