Unable to setup pages in Facebook for ping
I keep getting caught in this loop! I get this when trying to set up pages:
"Oops! It looks like you aren't a page administrator, or you haven't added the Ping.fm app to one or more of your pages."
"Click here to add the app to a page you administer." When I click here I get:
"The developer of this application does not currently allow it to be added"
"Oops! It looks like you aren't a page administrator, or you haven't added the Ping.fm app to one or more of your pages."
"Click here to add the app to a page you administer." When I click here I get:
"The developer of this application does not currently allow it to be added"

Inappropriate?Rich I had the same problems too because I have installed the Ping.fm Facebook app way before April 29th 2009 and this is what I did,
After I followed all the listed steps on wiki/help http://pingfm.pbworks.com/Facebook-Pages ,the pages manage to show up but I am still unable to check the box as shown in the screenshoot.
FYI, I have already granted permissions to this application
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?Daniel, I am exactly at the same spot as you (the page shows up, but unable to check it). Wonder if it's because there's only one page?
I’m confused too
-
Inappropriate? When you click "grant permissions" are you prompted with a page selector? Or does it say "You've already..." whatever?
-
Come'on! Sean I even attached the screen shoot for you and you still ask me this questions?! -
Actually, Daniel, the part he's referring to is after clicking on grant permission in the screenshot. You probably granted permission to your profile and not your page. Delete the app read the wiki again.
I don't blame you. FB is very complicated. But I think it's for security reasons. -
Inappropriate?Have the same problem as Daniel O. Can't chech the box in Daniels first image.
The text says there is a known problem and shows how to fix it, but it still don't work, ping.fm says it's been posted but nothing shows up at the FB Page...
Link to ping.fm workaround: http://pingfm.pbworks.com/Facebook-Pa...
For Sean: it says "You've already granted permissions..."
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I don't see the same page as Daniel O, this is what I get first:
"Below is a list of your pages. Check the pages you want to post messages to. More information about this process can be found here.
Note: There is a known Facebook issue that might prohibit you from setting your Page's permissions . Click here for a work-around for this as well as more information as to why it's a problem.
Your Pages
Oops! It looks like you aren't a page administrator, or you haven't added the Ping.fm app to one or more of your pages.
Click here to add the app to a page you administer"
When I click that I get:
"Ping.fm
The developer of this application does not currently allow it to be added" -
I think this is a Facebook problem. I've personally never seen it, but it's also quite random. As about 60 thousand people have added this functionality to their accounts, it's looking to be more and more a random Facebook glitch. I'll see what I can find out. -
OK... Sean, I understand that this is most likely a "Facebook issue." I might even go so far as to say that FB has made it difficult to appropriate an app with the functionality that I and others would find exceptionally useful.
I strongly disagree that this could be in any way "quite random." There's a reason. We just haven't found it yet. There's something that some of us (including me) are doing in congruent to the way this app is designed. Saying it is "random" means you don't know, you are just as frustrated as we are and you are no longer willing to search for the answer.
Do us a favor and hand it off to someone who loves to solve complex puzzles. -
Inappropriate?Rick, that's a different problem (related though). For me it went away after some attempts/days...
Sean of Ping.fm Where are you? -
Inappropriate?I don't even get this far! I'm caught in the loop of adding Ping.fm as an app on Facebook... which I did LONG ago...
((I've been expecting this app and looking forward to it!!))
Suggestions? Comments? Solutions???
I’m frustrated with the redundancy of it all.

this solves the problem

Inappropriate?Okay gang, I was curious so I set up Ping.fm for a unpublished FB page I'm working on. First of all, yeah, it can be really complicated and confusing to get this to work. But the good news is there's a FAQ already on the help wiki that explains EVERYTHING.
The first thing you'll have to do is delete the app. The second this is you need to read Ping.fm Help and Information Wiki / Facebook Pages. And MAKE SURE you select your page and not your profile after you click on grant permission. I made that mistake and had to start all over hahaha!
Ping.fm Help and Information Wiki / Facebook Pages
I hope you guys have e-mail updates turned on!
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate?Still doesn't work. Here are the steps I followed:
- Deleted Ping.fm facebook app
- Added the Ping.fm Facebook app
- Clicked "Allow"
- Entered my Ping.fm application key
- Went to the Facebook Page setup (http://apps.facebook.com/pingdotfm/pa...) where it says, "Below is a list of your pages..." and none are listed -- only the 'Oops' message.
- Clicked where it says 'Click here to add the app to a page you administer.' and it says, "The developer of this application does not currently allow it to be added."
I never had the opportunity to select my page because none were present. Sorry if I'm just missing something... -
Inappropriate?Okay, then it was probably ME that left something out. I had followed instructions on the following page and I DO remember the facebook page appearing after I did this. But I thought it was a coincidence. Maybe not? Try this:
Ping.fm Help and Information Wiki / Facebook Page Permission Problems -
Inappropriate?I hate to be a detractor here, but if you continue to have the problem (as I did), you might look at the competition called hellotxt. The same issue of making sure to choose the pages update upfront applies here too, but I could at least work it out by following the instructions. If nothing else, having a clean slate by adding a different app might have helped...
I’m disappointed I couldn't work it out with ping.fm, but cest la vie...
-
Inappropriate? You might still have problems. The complication is due to Facebook, not Ping.fm.
-
Inappropriate?I followed all the instructions. Again & again. Uninstalled, reinstalled, uninstalled, reinstalled...
This morning, Ping.fm is not posting to my Facebook personal or public page. My dashboard says I have not installed the Page app, but is posting to my personal page.
Before I do it all, once again, is there any point?
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I don't have the time now but I guess I could post a step-by-step guide with screenshots.
The only reason I keep insisting that it works is because I tried it only after seeing everyone have issues with it. And I got it to work. And believe me, I know it can be complicated. But those two pages I linked to resolved everything.
Basically what I'm saying is that it works. It absolutely works. But making it work is complicated, nobody is denying that.
I’m sympathetic
-
Inappropriate? Are you talking about Facebook Pages or the personal Facebook? I can get it working on my normal facebook but not on "Pages". http://getsatisfaction.com/pingfm/top...
-
Inappropriate?I've been talking about pages the entire time.
-
Inappropriate? Is there an emoticon for "Gag me with a spoon." I've been thru this loop 11 times now and I still haven't been able to use Ping on my FB page. Don't tell me it's random or it's very complicated or it's a FB problem or read the Wiki. Or atleast don't confuse that with "getting satisfaction". Telling me I"m too stupid to follow instructions ( me and apparently several other people) does not give me satisfaction
I’m mad AND frustrated
-
Inappropriate?amen
-
Inappropriate?I'm one of the stupid ones too... seemingly along with whoever thinks this is doable!
-
Inappropriate?I deleted the ping app from both my page and my personal profile, I then followed the instructions on the wiki step by step and its now working perfectly.
The only tricky part is when you get to the page where it says to select which page and you can't select it, you have to first hit the link to the right to grant permission and then go back to the previous step and select the page. If you search for "Phil Hendrie Show Flashback" on Facebook, you'll see the page for my podcast, and all those updates are from ping.fm. It was a bit of a pain to set up but its well worth it. Now I just post my latest episode and goes everywhere I need it.
-
Inappropriate?i have seriously tried EVERYTHING said here and on the wiki and i still cannot get this to work!!!!!
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I simply do not have the time to try and make this thing work, It was a marginal benefit to me if it worked well first time, now it's already lost it's value. Thanks for all the input, but I'm done.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I finally got it working.
I think the problem is that for the Grant Permission link to work, which is a necessary step, the Stream permission has to be UNCHECKED. The wiki's documentation repeatedly mentions that this is a problem, so I think those of us who are having problems are correctly and preemptively following these instructions to "fix" the permissions, which breaks Grant Permission.
On my fifth exasperated attempt, I decided to go and uncheck the stream whatever permission box. Then I clicked Grant Permissions. Then I was able to get the light gray nondescript drop down, where you have to choose the page's name instead of the default-selected Personal page, and click Allow. Finally I was able to check the page's box.
I'm sorry, but now that I got it working, I'm not willing to reproduce the error and cause the fix to confirm this. Hopefully my theory is correct and helps someone.
I’m sliding slowly from annoyed to content
-
Inappropriate?daniel, in desperation i tried the same thing.
and the weird thing is that it granted me permission on all my pages but one. weird and temperamental...
-
Inappropriate?Hey guys, finally I have time to sit down for an hour to reset everything and it works now!
This steps fixed my problem,

Uncheck "Publish to stream"
http://pingfm.pbworks.com/Facebook-Pa...
Finally I can check my pages, after I grant the permission.
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?I have just given an hour to this, following the directions precisely and slowing going mad. I'm using the Firefox browser. Could that be the problem? It doesn't say "Publish to streams" either; it says "Publish recent activity (one line stories) to my wall." I hope that's the same meaning.
I’m frustrated!
-
Inappropriate?I have tried all of the suggestions mentioned, but the checkbox is ALWAYS greyed out and unable to be checked. :(
-
Start over completely and try again. It works. -
"Start over completely and try again. It works." I've started over 12-15 times over the past month. It doesn't work for me, and obviously some others. -
I did the same thing and finally gave up for good... still buggy. I wonder what % of ping users who tried to set it up actually got it to work. -
That's easy to answer. Think of how many people use facebook. Think of how many of those facebook users also have ping. Now look at how few people have this issue, at current count 17. Surely if this was a real problem more would complain.
It's probably screencast time... -
Excellent point Utils.
I gave up too... too frustrating. I think that those that did get it to work may not have been managing very many pages. (I am working with >10 pages) This would have been a real time saver. I tried and tried... following directions to a T... still waiting for the bugs to get worked out before I attempt it again. -
I'm genuinely interested in know the numbers. How many ping+facebook pages users are there? -
There could be thousands of people who it isn't working for, yet don't have the initiative or perseverance to try repeatedly and/or complain on a public forum. Most people I know would give up after one attempt. And, to be clear, there are many people who view threads like this and don't click on the "I have this problem too". You know how I know this? I was one of them - I didn't even see that button until now. Also, there are many other threads in this support system about this same issue. I am a coder at heart - I have created custom bash scripts, tons of complex mySQL queries, and 100+ dynamic web sites. This Facebook Page + Ping.FM is OVERLY complicated, and needs to be improved. -
Those are scripting languages so you're more of a script kiddie but I digress.
As I've said before (and they've [Facebook] even said it themselves), Facebook's process is totally complicated and convoluted. I had issues myself at first but then it finally worked and I was able to do it every time. But this wasn't before reading the wiki. But I'm not saying you didn't read the wiki. I had to read it a few times myself. -
Inappropriate?Ughh, I've done that already so many times. I think I'll try IE next round. The only thing I can think of left is the browser maybe being an issue.
I’m still frustrated
-
Okay, there's hope yet. I just uninstalled and reinstalled, but when I went to reinstall, on ping.fm there is now an option to install Facebook Pages. It's working, kind of. At least it's showing my page, although I can't select it. Maybe I need to wait a few minutes before Facebook catches up. I'll post again if it ever works. -
Inappropriate?I had the same issue and somehow I fixed it, going through the posts above. I can't remember exactly how and i think it was some kind of a desperate fluke.... to have faith it "can" be fixed but it ain't fun!

Inappropriate?oh boy, now that I've deleted ping.fm off both my Facebook Profile and Fan page I can't seem to find it in Application Search. What key words to I type in to get the app to come up. I tried ping.fm and it didn't work
-
try to add ping.fm facebook apps thru ping.fm dashboard -
Inappropriate?Ok, I can make it work - but there's a big problem. I set up 2 ping accounts - personal and business. I have one Facebook account, personal, which I've created a Public page on for my business. I can get my personal account on ping to update FB without updating my Public page, but I cannot get the business Ping account to update my Facebook page without updating my personal status. Any ideas?
-
Inappropriate?@David
Create another Ping.fm account and handle the two facebook accounts separately.. -
Inappropriate?Hi,
I have managed to get it to to work.
1. Go to your page, then into Ping.fm FOR THE PAGE, and edit app settings to allow it to publish to page.
2. Go to your PERSONAL Facebook page, app settings for Ping.fm and DO NOT allow it to publish to page.
3. Now you need to grant permission and it should work
Good luck!
-
Inappropriate?It works ! after uninstall and install PING.FM on 2 facebook's accounts.
Try to open the facebook accounts in two differents browser in the same time and re-introduce the PING.FM key.
I firstly activated PING.FM on those pages and I didn''t modify any option on the 10 Facebook Fan Pages and it works after access granted.
The re-installation enabled the button "UPDATE SETTINGS" on the PING.FM settings for pages.

Inappropriate?I blame facebook for this problem, not ping. The logic is convoluted for pages on almost all apps that deal with them. Facebook clearly hasn't figured out pages.
I’m annoyed
-
Inappropriate?"Facebook clearly hasn't figured out pages. "
I would disagree with this statement. Facebook Fan Pages... like so many other facets of Social Networks, is a developing area. It is in its infancy. I see efforts on the part of Facebook to make them easier to use/connect.
HOWEVER, what is the incentive for Facebook to send users out of their network? I believe that Facebook wants to keep users in the confines of Facebook... and why wouldn't they?
I think Facebook knows exactly what they want to accomplish. They are under NO obligation to share their goals with us. They do need us to enhance the Facebook experience... but we will have to do it on their terms. They know this. We know this.
Be patient. If this app doesn't work for you (it has never worked for me) there will be others. They may even come from the developers at Facebook. Wouldn't that be lovely??
I’m still lookin' for an app for that.
-
Inappropriate?I actually got it working. I can't describe how, but I have spent over 30 hours on the problem of "update twitter and facebook page" simultaneously. 10 or so were spend on ping.fm, the rest on twitter, selective twitter and other solutions.
Facebook DOES gain from helping to get this and other apps working. It increases the amount of content on their network and brings more visitors to their site.
The pages functionality is relatively new to facebook and yes, they are still working on it. Which is why I stand by my comment "Facebook clearly hasnt figured out pages".
Steph, you might want to see this. Facebook is going to take on twitter integration http://blog.facebook.com/blog.php?pos...
-
Inappropriate?Janey,
(Thanks for the link) I saw this last week... I actually tested it on our company page and it worked--first time out of the gate... no snags at all. That is why I said that Facebook knows what they want to accomplish... and that an app may actually come from them.
My theory... (just a theory) FB will be our new PingFM... If FB connects to the other SoNets with and FOR us, FB becomes our one-stop-shopping. ((I'm thinking with a tool like FF, they could be well on their way.))
BTW Janey, are you on Twitter? I'm @TakinPitchas -
Inappropriate?Yes!!! I was able to uninstall Ping and then add it again and it worked now!
I’m thankful
-
Inappropriate?Just posted this to another similar topic, hope it helps guys...
Okay, now nobody get too excited just yet but I think I have ACTUALLY figured this one out. It worked for me so hopefully this will work for you!
So here's what I did....
I completely deleted the app from Facebook altogether. I headed over to Ping.fm & from there, I clicked on "Add More Networks" on the main dashboard page and then clicked "Facebook Pages". It'll have you sign in with Facebook so go ahead and do that.
After you're signed in, you'll need to get your application key which you can find at ping.fm/key/ if you're logged in. Once you'll do that it will say Success and what not but not exactly. Go ahead and click on the update permissions link or whatever it is. Sorry, I'm kinda doing this from memory as I don't want to re-do it and chance of it not working afterwards LOL
There it'll take you to a similar page which should have a list of your fan pages as well as your personal Facebook page. Next to the fan page you want, you will of course notice that the checkbox cannot be marked. Simply click the "Grant Permissions" link right next to it & it'll load up another familiar page. Pick the fan page you want and do whatever it is to submit it, make it active, whatever.
After that, you will be taken back to the previous page and YOU WILL NOW BE ABLE TO CHECK THE FREAKIN' BOX!! THANK GOD!
Submit, save the settings, whatever it is after that and you will officially have got Ping.fm to work with updating your fan page. I can tell you it works and have tested it out! If you don't want Ping.fm to also update your personal facebook page, you may have to go into Ping.fm and remove the main facebook account, of course not the Facebook pages account. For some reason it automatically added my personal facebook account too but it may not do it for you.
Anyways, I hope this really helped and will actually work for all of you having some serious issues with this. In the meantime, feel free to follow me on Twitter via @mikestenger.
-
Inappropriate? Those sound like the directions already in the wiki, LOL
-
Well...did you try it? I just posted it because that's how I got it to work. Jeez ;-) -
Scroll up. I followed the wiki directions and had it working months ago. In fact there's even a screenshot on this page with the the 'grant permissions' link from the wiki. :| -
Inappropriate?I'm not following this problem anymore. Every time someone new complains about it they come back later saying they solved it by following directions—INCLUDING MYSELF SEVERAL MONTHS AGO!
Good luck to the ping.fm staff getting people to follow directions. Frankly, Facebook is also to blame with their convoluted setup procedure.
I’m Fixed a long time ago, mang.
-
Inappropriate? We've moved to Facebook Connect. So all of these maddening issues should have vanished.
-
Inappropriate?Ummm, not on this end. You just me all excited for nothing. I opened my ping dash to post something, just to see if it posted in all three places i requested. NOPE, facebook is still giving ping a big ole
I’m giving ping/facebook a raseberry
-
Inappropriate?I did what Michael suggested, deleted facebook and reapplied it....works now FINALLY!!!!! For how long, I have no clue.
I’m happy
