URL Rewrite on already short URLS.
Please don't rewrite urls when they are already short enough. I posted 'http://sfkbc.com' a name I wanted and it got rewritten to 'http://ping.fm/85FTO' which is not only longer, but not descriptive. Only shrink urls if it's benificial.

Inappropriate? We could try using a different URL shortening service other than TinyURL (since it is blocked at most of the firewalls at work) - We could try something like http://lin.cr
I’m excited

Inappropriate?Maybe an option to not do URL shortening at all? Most are fully versed in the workings of micro-blogging, so when they aim to post a long URL, they do it on purpose. I know I do. And I also like to use my own URL shortening service anyway.
The default would be `on`, obviously, for the new people, and you could add to the `Your post should appear in...` with `We shortened one of your URLs to make your post shorter, if you don't want this to happen, click here.`
I’m heh

Inappropriate?Good idea. I will add this to the next update. A simple setting "Shorten URLs I post"
Excellent.
I'm also going to add some link tracking for shortened URLs, so you can see what kind of clicks you get from your posts. Might be a cool feature for some people.
Thanks!

Inappropriate?I was just about to post the same issue. In my opinion the golden rule should be that if message and URL fit 140 characters then no shortening should occur.
I’m happy people are talking

It's a bigger request from users to shorten automatically, and provide analytics on the links (which we are soon).
