Why doesn't Ping.fm update my Gtalk Status?
I know I can update Ping.fm from GTalk, which is the only way I do it, but I am confused as to why Ping.fm doesn't actually update my GTalk status message.

Inappropriate? Is there anything I can do to help? Anything specific impeding the progress? Just curious because I thought the protocol behind GTalk was pretty simple. Thanks for the quick response :)
I’m confident

Inappropriate? Is there a way I can contact you directly?
-
Inappropriate? This would be awesome. I would like to be able to update all of my Instant Messaging application statuses with my Ping.fm posts. That would complete me. :-D
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate?I could also see the function going the other way around, when you update your gTalk-status the status is posted, like the Kwippy-bot.

Inappropriate?I'll talk to the guys at Kwippy and see how they got that working. We've tried the Gtalk status road, but it screwed up offline messages, and we haven't perfected it.
This has been requested quite a bit, so we are definitely taking a closer look at it.
Thanks for the post.

Cool, thanks for the reply! -
Inappropriate? It would be really nice to see this feature. Hopefully they can get it working!
-
Inappropriate?I'll second that, this would be a great feature !
I haven't checked it but it is already possible for live messenger ? -
Inappropriate?GTalk status is per session. If we make it set your gtalk status, it will only display for the connection we create. We would immediately close that connection after setting it anyway. I am not sure if it is even possible to set a status for all existing connections. If anyone knows how, e-mail me. (only if you have a working code example, not a theory)
-
Is this still the case? Because if I set my status in Gmail, log out and log in again, the status remains. -
When you use two different clients at the same time, such as gtalk and pidgin, both of them have independent statuses. -
When I have gtalk clients up on two computers signed into the same account, updating the status on either one updates the other. Hence, ping.fm should be able to do something similar, shouldn't it? -
Sorry ackter, this was a 7-10 month old thread. I finally figured out how to do it and we put it in place a few months ago. https://ping.fm/gtalk/ -
Hi Adam, urm... It doesn't seem to work. for me at least I've got the official windows google talk executable client signed in(the gmail gtalk widget, too), I've set up my gtalk account in ping.fm successfully, with all the appropriate checkboxes.
I make an update on ping.fm, and I my gtalk client status does not change. When I make a status message change on any other client I am signed into(gtalk exe on another computer, gtalk gmail widget) the status message changes immediately on all clients I'm signed in on. Something's up. Any ideas? -
Select "clear custom messages" on your gtalk client (at the bottom of the status menu), then try updating from Ping.fm again. Let me know if it works. -
Did that, no change. However, later rebooted computer. Looks to be working now. Thanks Adam! Although I wish I could have tested restarting the Gtalk client before rebooting. Oh well! -
Inappropriate?Adam, I can't find your email, but this guy seems to have some open code that takes a Twitter status and uses it to update your GTalk status:

Inappropriate? This would make me very happy if it were implemented!
-
Inappropriate?any luck w/ this? the only other service i've found is the one adrienne mentions above, but i'm reluctant to sign up for another service. incorporating this feature into ping would be a godsend.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?why can't ping.fm update my status on the gtalk and msn messengers?! You guys rock, I know you can make it happen - you just don't want it to!
Hehe :-)
Anyways...if you guys are stuck on the API side, please post some details on where and maybe I, I mean someone, can help out ;-)
I’m kinda okay today
