Windows Live Messenger bot not responding
I can't seem to get the WLM bot to veryify/respond. Here's what I'm doing:
1. add "pingdotfm@live.com" as a contact
2. go to actions > send an instant message
3. put in "pingdotfm@live.com" in the search box and choose the result as my recipiant
4. a window opens but says recipiant is offline and will receive messages when they come online
5. paste in my verify code and send it
6. nothing... :(
I've also tried emailing "pingdotfm@live.com" with my verification code, no joy.
The instructions on the Ping.Fm dashboard for Windows Live Messenger are pretty vague, so once I've worked out what it is I'm doing wrong - assuming its not me being completely dumb - can I suggest someone re-write the instuctions. ;)

Inappropriate? You were doing it right, WLM and the bot were not getting along very well.. It should be fixed now. You might have to send your verify again. (over im, not email). Let me know how it goes.
I’m not getting along with wlm
-
I've tried this on MSN messenger from a couple of machines and neither worked. Tried an email from my MSN live webmail. No luck. -
Inappropriate?I use Skype and WLM as my IM clients and when trying to add the Bot (as clearly described by frazor) to WLM I get the same result, "your contact appears to be offline". I hope someone at Ping.fm is working on this.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? It's online, but WLM has a strange protocol. Sometimes the bot accepts the friend request, sometimes it does not (not sure why). I have the account set to always receive messages from anyone, but sometimes it does not get them if you're not on the friends list. (appears to be a WLM bug which can be duplicated with the official client.) I am working on these problems. For now I am manually accepting the missed friends requests periodically.
-
Inappropriate? Thanks for the reply Adam but my problem is that the Bot contact <pingdotfm@live.com> always appears offline. I don't see how that can be a WLM bug. I have several other Bot's running in WLM and they all work with the exception of Ping.fm Hope you can resolve this.
-
Inappropriate?I went in and manually accepted all requests a few hours ago. Let me know if you still do not see it online.
I’m online
-
Adam I am now able to tweet using LWM and it seems to be working very well. Thanks very much for your help. You might want to update your instructions so Live Messenger users are more likely to try this approach. -
Inappropriate?Any new news on this? I just tried to set up the bot and I'm having the same problem. It shows offline and sending the verification code doesn't appear to do anything.
-
My problem appears to have resolved itself. Bot appears as online and has accepted the verification code. Tested a post and it went to all the right places. -
It did that for me too at times I just went to my "offline" list and dbl clicked pingfotfm@live.com and typed in my message and it posted it to twitter, plurk etc. -
Inappropriate?I've tried this a dozen times or more over the past month -- the bot always appears offline (by any chance have you got it set up to block all connections except friends??). I really wish this would work as it would be great for quick posts from my PC.
I’m frustrated
-
It seems that the bot is supposed to 'auto-friend' new users and isn't. If you look above, you'll see that a plurk dude has had to go in manually to accept friend requests. I think this is what fixed my problem. Hope they chime in for you, but I think you just have to wait for one of these manual sweeps. Hope that helps. -
Inappropriate?I don't see the bot for Windows Live Messenger anymore, I used to see it a few weeks back. My messenger account has been verified.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Same issue here. I've tried this a couple times and the bot is always offline.
I’m melancholy
-
Inappropriate?I believe I have defeated this problem (hopefully)....
Using the official WLM client:
If you have previously added the bot but it does not show up:
select the bot on your buddylist, right click, delete contact, also remove from hotmail contacts (do not block), delete. Then go to options, privacy, select the bot on your "allow" list, hit the delete button on the keyboard and hope it deletes it, then click ok.
To add the bot:
click on the "Add a contact" icon, enter pingdotfm@live.com, then click add contact. Wait about 1-2 minutes, then change the view from the buddylist to one of the other tabs (check out windows live, "what is i'm", other spam ads, etc), then back to your buddylist, and the bot should appear.
Using a better client:
Add the bot as usual and it should work right away.
I’m accepting friends
-
No joy.
Followed these intsructions to the letter. Bot appears ... but it's OFFLINE. Exactly the same behavior as before. -
nothing happens with this istructions... :o( -
Inappropriate?I still see the problem. I'm using pidgin 2.5.0 but the bot is always offline, even after Adam's fix of '5 hours ago'.
-
Inappropriate?I use WLM 8.5, Digsby, Pidgin and AdiumX on 3 different machines... and have tried this on each of them, no joy.
I’m feeling defeated
-
Inappropriate?Mine started working a couple of hours ago (probably after that fix), I'm using Miranda.
I’m happy again!
-
Inappropriate? If you are still unable to add the bot, we will both have to perform the process I mentioned above (remove completely on both ends, then you can re-add). I think if you are already on the allow list, but can't see the bot online for some unexplainable reason, then you request again, it will not prompt the bot to accept you. The entire request/accept process in WLM is a testers nightmare. I can partially reproduce this and tons of other oddities using the actual wlm client, but it is never reliable or consistent. WLM is the most unreliable of all the bots (due to the nature of the WLM protocol), GTalk or AIM are the most reliable.
I’m hating the wlm protocol

Inappropriate?I was playing with Digsby tonight and lo and behold there was the Ping.fm bot. Yay.
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?WLM 8.5.1302.1018. Add user, send offline message with verification code, but nothing...
Also tried to remove user and re-add it, but nothing happend.
I’m unlucky
-
Inappropriate?Started working this morning! (4th Sept) Been online and responding since!
I'm on WLM 9.0.1407.1107 don't think that matters though!
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?Excellent, glad it's working!
-
Inappropriate?after 4 days... nothing yet! Always offline...
Now I've deleted and re-added the contact for the third time... let's wait a few days again -
Inappropriate?I'm using WLM 14.0.3921.717 and eBuddy but BOT doesn't working, appears always offline...
I’m broke pipes this BOT
-
Inappropriate?Tested now with Meebo and eBuddy works!
NOT with Pidgin and Windows Live Messenger..
I’m in VERY confusion!
-
Inappropriate?I'm using Pidgin and the bot appears offline, too. I use two separate Yahoo! IM accounts, one for home, one for work, so supporting additional Yahoo! IM's in Ping.fm would really help me out, too. Thanks!
I’m really wanting to IM posts from work.
-
Inappropriate? We've had nothing but constant problems with the WLM bot. We're considering stabbing it. In the meantime, you could just load up one of the other bots while WLM is being stupid.
-
Adam, I'm close to the Live team -- is this something I could possibly poke at for you? What is your bot written in? I think it's time we get this silliness sorted out! -
Rafael... I think I know you :P
Would be great to finally get some closure on this as I haven't been able to use the system for months. -
Rafael, this may be easier to work over e-mail. adam at ping dot fm. thanks! -
Inappropriate?Bummer, still apparently non functional.
-
Inappropriate? Finally! Now works in Windows Live Messenger (14.0.3921.717) and appear online! I have also tried to reboot more times and WLM Bot continue to works..
I hope that both the time that remains stable otherwise I do not know how to react in this case :PPP it's too comfortable and useful to be able to remain without :)
I’m happy happy ...
-
Inappropriate?Yay!! I'm using Pidgin and it's working great now! Woo-Hoo! Ping.fm rocks!!
I’m all sorts of excited!
-
Inappropriate?Hmm still not working for me... another stab or another bot maybe :)
-
Inappropriate?Doesn't work. Worked a while from bitlbee but when I logged back in the bot seemed to be offline and has been ever since... now it won't work on pidgin, wlm or bitlbee. My msn-address is rolle (at) rolleweb.net.
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate? That's why I have the bot added to AIM google talk Yahoo! and MSN Messenger. In case one goes down I have a backup bot ready. :)
I’m happy

-
Inappropriate?I use bitlbee multi-im so I added my gtalk and yahoo accounts to it and both pingbots are responding. I don't need the msn pingdotfm any longer, it still doesn't work. But this is solved for me. Thanks anyway :)
I’m happy.

Inappropriate?I tried it today and yesterday. This is still not working. The bot seems to be dead!
-
Inappropriate?I tried adding the Yahoo bot to WLM, as they're compatible, but still no go.
I’m confused. How hard could this be?
-
Inappropriate?I've done every workaround that ping team has suggested... nothing works for me
How do I get accepted manualy by the team?
I’m FRUSTRATED
-
Inappropriate?Switched emails and Messenger accounts and still having trouble with the bot not coming online and responding to the verification code.
-
Inappropriate?I initially just had the GTalk bot which worked fine for quite awhile, then it was offline permanently. So I added the MSN bot, which worked for about a day or two and then went offline. Now I've added the Yahoo bot and we'll see how long that lasts... I also can't find the AIM id for the AIM bot?
I'm using Digsby.
I’m disappointed
-
Remove the GTalk bot and add it back and/or re-authorize it. It will come back. The MSN bot is very fickle, we're working on fixing it's issues. AIM bot is "pingfm" -
Thanks Adam. I re-authorized it and that worked. -
Inappropriate?Having the same problem with msn and gtalk bot. Removed and readded both but not working!!
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?my instant messenger isnt working either it says it is not responding and it says the WLM is not responding :( Please tell me how to fix it because it doesnt let me talk to anyone when i sign in it just freezes so how do i fix it ??
-
Inappropriate?I can't get this to work at all either. Is it possible to run through the old friend requests and manually accept again?
I can see the bot. but it is offline. I sent it an offline message, "test", and it replied back saying it didn't recognize my screen name. I tried again, this time sending my verification code instead, and it told me it verified my code and that I could start posting.
However the bot never went online, and any other posts after that just didn't do anything.
I tried the steps to completely remove and re-add, but no luck. -
Inappropriate?pingdotfm [at] live.com is offline and not working. Need some help. If it worked, It would be a great tool.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Same problem as original post. Am I able to fix this or am I doing something wrong, or is the MSN bot not a working feature? It's a shame as it's the only reason I joined this.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?i was able to get around this by doing the following:
On computer:
1. Install Windows Messenger
2. Sign In and remove the pingfmbot from your buddy list.
3. Re-add the bot
4. Paste your verification code in: verify-***********
5. The bot responds ... "Thanks for ..." -
In Windows Live Messenger, when I added a contact pingdotfm@live.com it appears offline. I also is supposed to respond back when I send the verify-*** code, but it does not. So insofar as I am concerned, this is still not working.
