Cannot login to Skitch after installing (Unknown Error (77))
I am unable to log into my Skitch account after installing Skitch. I confirmed that I am using the correct login credentials.
Here is a snapshot of the error window (It pained me so much to use another screen capturing application)

Hi all, sorry for the delay — we think we've found the problem.
Can anyone experiencing Snow Leopard issues please try downloading this build and letting us know how you go?

Inappropriate?Hi dstaley,
Sorry to hear you're having this problem. :(
Had you been able to login with Skitch before? Or was this the first time?
Also, are you behind a firewall, for example in a office environment etc? -
Inappropriate?Keith,
Yes, I have been able to log into Skitch. I just recently did a clean install of OS X and when I reinstalled Skitch I was unable to log in. I am not behind any firewall, and I made sure that portforwarding was not active on my router. -
Inappropriate?Hmm, my only guess is somehow the preference file got corrupted.
If you copied (or the OS X installer) copied across the preference files, perhaps they got corrupted in the process, but that's not too hard to fix. There's a thread here which explains how to archive/delete the existing Skitch preference files. Skitch will auto-generate a new preference file when next launched.

Hope that helps,

Inappropriate?Keith,
I'm running on a clean OS X install, so no preference files were copied over. -
Inappropriate?Hmmm. Are you using any additional network/port manipulation utilities?
Anything else 'unusual' on your system? -
Inappropriate?Keith,
Like I said, it's a clean install. I've installed Firefox, Adium, LaunchBar, Boxee, Hulu Desktop, LittleSnapper (Which has no problems connecting), and uTorrent.

After installing LittleSnitch, I've observed that Skitch is making attempts to connect to skitch.com, but it is never establishing that connection as proven by monitoring the incoming and outgoing network traffic on my computer. -
Inappropriate?Thank you for clarifying all those details — obviously those other apps are networking happily. :-(
What OS version are you on? PPC/Intel?
We're still trying to work out what might be going wrong here, but if you'd like to send me an email at keith at skitch dott com then we can try to solve this problem personally.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
I’m stumped
-
Inappropriate?I have this problem too but in my case it's with snow leopard (june 8 beta).
I have my machine set to dual boot Leopard and Snow Leopard. Using the same Skitch image I can login fine on Leopard but I get the unknown error (77) in snow leopard.
I hope this helps... -
Inappropriate?I've started to have this problem today after installing Snow Leopard build 10A380 (WWDC 2009 Preview).
Removing preferences file didn't help
Recreating rules/disabling Little Snitch didn't help
No router to mess up port forwarding/screening
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?I'm experiencing the same problem (also using Snow Leopard 10A380) :(
-
Inappropriate?Same here. Also with Snow Leopard 10A380.

Inappropriate?Keith,
We've been talking by email for a couple months on this, just wanted to add in that this is the same thing I've had going on. Changing DNS servers didn't help. On the same network, Skitch works fine in Leopard, but not at all in Snow Leopard.
I’m sad

Inappropriate? Thanks guys. Please also let us know if there's any other problems with this build which appear, as always, some small things change across OS updates.
-
Inappropriate?working with Snow Leopard....got this problem....the build referenced by Keith appears to have solved the problem....so far. best I can tell
I’m relieved
-
Inappropriate?I'm experiencing a weird problem with the build, Keith: if I snap a windeow on the desktop I get strange elongated pixels on the background. A deeper look made me recognize distorted file names of desktop icons... ?!? A workaround consists in cleaning the desktop from any file/folder... so the snaps come clean again...
-
Inappropriate? The build provided at the top of this page works fine. But there are some minor issues when I have a window's shadow enabled and there some stuff instead of transparency.
I’m unsure
-
Inappropriate? You guys, don't you experience the problem shown above when snapping a window on a transparent background? Am I the only one?!? Oh, lucky man...
I’m confused
-
I'm getting the same, check my message above. It seems that instead of fully transparent layer there are some icons etc. -
Inappropriate? From what I understood, those glitches depend on the stuff on your desktop. Try to get rid of any icons (except of course your HD), and they'll disappear.
Looks like a skitch bug to me. Waiting an update from plasq.. -
Inappropriate?Got the bug - it appears only when you set to capture background with the shadow. But if you set transparent it works good.
I’m happy
