Skitch is really slow and using 98-99 under CPU in Activity Monitor
For the last few days, Skitch has become "impossible-to-use" slow. It is using 98-99 under the CPU column in Activity monitor. I've tried restarting my computer a few times, no dice.
Running:
Skitch 1.0b7 (v77)
MacBook Pro / MacOSX 10.5.5
The slowness occurs from the very start of Skitch--I've had to disable loading it on login because it was slowing my machine way down. It makes taking snaps painful, all animations of Skitch appearing and disappearing are now taking nearly a minute, and it's affecting the overall performance of my machine.
The strange thing is that I upgrade to this latest version when it came out (I think a couple of weeks ago now?), yet the problem only appeared in the last couple of days.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
-Chuck

hi Chuck, sorry we managed to overlook your note here. :-(
Perhaps try re-downloading Skitch.app and deleting any copies of Skitch you have on your system (sometimes they can hang around the downloads folder, etc).
If that doesn't work, it could be a corrupted preferences file.
1. Quit skitch
2. Find the the file "com.plasq.skitch.plist" in your user account>Library>Preferences and compress it by right-clicking and choosing compress from the menu, This way you'll always have a copy.
3. Now, delete the original and try re-launching Skitch. You'll need to re-enter your Skitch account details so be sure to have them handy.
Hope that helps!

Inappropriate? An additional note about this: I use Aperture as my photo management software. I noticed that in the "Photos" menu, Aperture is listed as (Loading...) for a very long time now. Hope this is relevant or helps in some way!
I’m still hoping to find a solution...

Inappropriate?Bueller? Bueller?
Darn, I really preferred Skitch. Jing is just not up to par, but I guess I'm forced to use it.
I’m upset with no response (even to say "We don't know").

Inappropriate?Had this same issue. Deleted the prefs as suggested and it seems to have fixed it BUT I lost all my history :-( I had some good stuff in there.

Inappropriate?Deleting the prefs file as suggested above worked for me, and I did not lose my history. Thanks!
-
Inappropriate?Yep this did the trick and I also didn't lose my history. Well done, Keith, and thanks!
I’m psyched like it's 1994.

Inappropriate?Worked for me too, History intact. I think Embro may have also deleted com.plasq.skitch.history
I’m thankful

Inappropriate? You are correct. I just forgot to post after fixing it. Rescuing the history pref from a backup returned everything intact.
