If you create a Platial account online and then connect the iphone account to your Platial account (click on the little i on your phone) you can then edit and delete the places and pictures you've added from your phone.
When you've got the phone and the web accounts merged, go to Platial.com and click on "My Places." You'll find everything you need there.
To reduce the chances of you getting lost here are the series of steps to follow:
- Go to platial.com in your browser. It's difficult to navigate the site in the Safari browser on the iPhone/Touch. You're better off using a PC or some other web connected device.
- Login. You'll see the Login link in the menu on the right side of the page (superimposed) on top of the map.
- The menu will update and you'll now see a 'My Platial' appear in the menu.
- Hover over 'My Platial' to get a drop down list which includes a 'My Places' item.
- Select 'My Places'
- You'll see a new Map Items menu on the left side of the page with 3 list items: 'On This Map', 'View All Places', and 'Slideshow'.
- Clicking 'On This Map' will open the 'Items On Map' submenu which lists all of the places you've created. Note that this menu should open automatically.
- Find the place you want to delete and click on its name in the list.
- A new panel will appear and next to the image (or the placeholder for the image) you'll see a row of small icons labeled: Share, Save, Fly To, Flag, Delete, and Edit.
- Click Delete.
- Confirm that you do want to delete the post when prompted.
- That should do it.
A couple of things to point out.
You may run into some bugs along the way.
After logging in make sure the menu updates to display the 'My Platial' choice. If it still reads 'Login' then you'll need to log in again or hop around the menus a little bit, until the menu reflects your logged in state. Elsewhere in the forums people talk about being spontaneously logged out. I don't know if this is the same bug or not. But, in my experience you're not actually logged out because sooner or later you'll become logged in again just as spontaneously, assuming you logged in successfully to start of course.
Another problem is that after you delete the place. The items on this page count may not go down. For example one of my maps reads
Showing 1 to 14 of 14 after I delete 13 of the original 14 places leaving only one on the map. This has persisted for days. I assume it's not going to change.
Also, as tracy's reply implies if you haven't linked to a Platial account before making the place that you want to delete, it may not be possible to delete it. At least I don't know how to do it.
Finally, Jason (another employee) has said that they are working on an iPhone appropriate web interface for platial, which may allow you to do this sort of thing through the browser on the device. Also, he suggested that at some point it will be possible to delete places, as well as do other things which currently must be done at platial.com directly in Nearby (the iPhone app). Lastly, I believe they are going to make it so that it's possible to delete places created in Nearby even if it is not linked to a Platial account.
If I've made any mistakes here, hopefully someone will correct me. -
Seems like a lot of steps to delete a place when you spell it out, huh?
