How do I plaze myself via text messages (SMS)?
I would like to use Plazes on my mobile phone by simply texting my location. How do I exactly do that?

With PlazeSMS you can plaze yourself at an existing or at a new Plaze and tell others what you're doing there.
1. Add Plazes SMS Numbers to your Address Book
Right now there are five Plazes SMS numbers you can send messages to. All of them behave exactly the same; just pick the one that’s nearest you (or the one you’ll pay the least to send an SMS to!):
Plazes USA SMS: +1 718 407 9566
Plazes Germany SMS: +49 176 888 111 33
Plazes United Kingtom SMS: +44 778 148 71 63
Plazes Spain SMS: +34 97 390 0104
Plazes Austria SMS: +43 676 800 66 77
If you add all of the numbers to your mobile phone’s address book, then you’ll be ready to use them as you travel the world.
2. Rename your Regular Plazes SMS Number
For day-to-day use you’re probably going to use the same Plazes SMS number over and over. To save having to wade through your mobile’s address book to locate the right one every time, rename your usual Plazes SMS number to something short and easy to type.
3. Grab the Plazes SMS Reference Card
Download and print the handy Plazes SMS Reference Card. It’s formatted to fit on a business card and slip into your wallet for ready consulting.
4. Use SMS Templates to Save Time
Many mobile phones let you set up “templates” for SMS messages — canned messages like “on my way home” or “I’ll get right back to you.” There’s no reason you can’t set up handy templates for Plazes too.
5. Add your Plazes Contacts’ Usernames to your Address Book
One of the most useful commands you can send to Plazes by SMS is username? Just send any Plazes username (doesn’t have to be one of your contacts), followed by a question mark, and Plazes will send you back that person’s latest location.
Because Plazes expects a Plazes username for this to work, you’ll obviously have to know the username of the person you want to check up on. To make this easier, add Plazes usernames to your mobile’s address book for ready reference.
6. Learn to T9
If you’re a texting veteran you no doubt long ago figured out the wonders of the T9 system for typing text on a numeric keypad that most mobile phones employ.
T9 lets you type text using “predictive typing” rather than the “press 9 four times to get the letter Z” method.
If this is all new to you, you’ll save a lot of time of you pop over to T9 and walk through their tutorials.
In fact even if you’re a T9 veteran, a visit to T9.com might teach you things you don’t already know — how to type compound words and fancy punctuation, for example.
7. Be Patient
Plazes SMS isn’t perfect. It works most of the time but you will experience some glitches and unexpected responses every now and then.
For example, remembering that the full form of the command to Plaze yourself is:
status @ Plaze on address in city
you can imagine that if you send an SMS like:
At home in bed on the couch at My House on Main Street
Plazes is going to get confused by the myriad occurrences of “at” and “on”. Best to avoid at, in and on except in their “official capacity” as Plazes SMS commands then.
You may also find that if you’re on the border between two countries Plazes gets confused about what country you’re in. Usually this is automatic — Plazes picks up the country code from your SMS; but if you’re on the border and actually usually the other countries mobile tower confusion can occur.
A variant of the above affects we here in Canada, where the fact that the USA and Canada share a country code causes no end of confusion for Plazes and I’m sometimes Plazed in CHARLTON, TOWN OF, MA in the USA rather than Charlottetown, PEI where I actual live. A fix is in the words for this, I’m told.

Inappropriate?I seem not be able to create a new place abroad. E.g. I want to create a place in Porto, Portugal but still will be placed in Port, Germany... Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Inappropriate?This is unfortunately a bug on which we are going to work as soon as possible: the PlazesSMS tries to plaze you in the last country you plazed yourself.
To avoid this bug, you should plaze yourself in Portugal on the website first and then use the SMS service.
We will let you know as soon as this bug is fixed.
