If possible use Gravatar ?
I have few days using plurk, but i use more service's where need management the avatar maybe can be usefull to the user's in plurk have one option to use gravatar.

Inappropriate?Currently we don't have any plans on supporting gravatar, but if the site becomes de-facto standard on avatars we might support it.

I'd settle for OpenID logins... seems like there is a way to support OpenID avatars too... though not postiive on that one. There should be! :-) -
