Permanently set the sound to off via the user profile
would it be possible to make the sound notification an entry in the profile to allow a user to permanently turn off the sound rather than have it return when the page is refreshed or when you log off and back on?

Inappropriate? We will look into this, seems to be cookie related. A fix is expected during tomorrow.

Inappropriate?Oh dear, that's rather annoying. Looking forward to being able to permanently disable the notification sound.
I’m being pinged to death
-
Inappropriate?Oh, I can't think of one good reason for this function. I can't wait to permanently disable it!
I’m extremely frustrated and cranky about this!
-
Much better, thank you!! -
Inappropriate?thanks Amir. It's a nice feature it just gets in the way if you are trying to concentrate. Having it settable in the profile would give the user an opportunity to turn it on or off depending on the circumstances or the surroundings.
I appreciate your quick response and commitment to looking for a solution.
I’m grateful for a quick response

Inappropriate? This feature really shows a lack of thought about usability and human factors. I'd like to see a focus on problems with the timeline (i.e. replies sometimes fail to show up as new but they are there if you look) or adding new ways to search and explore plurks. This audio alert tries to solve a problem no one has and does it badly to boot.
I’m annoyed by useless features that don't add value

Inappropriate?I also am looking forward to this. It's a novel concept but I disable all persistent cookie use for privacy concerns. I just want it so that, when I log in, beeps maintain their prior status, *not* dependent on a client-side cookie.
Thanks for looking into it. -
Inappropriate?I am looking forward to turning it off permanently. At the moment it is damn annoying it comes back every refresh.
I’m annoyed that useless features are added that don't add to the plurk experience
-
Inappropriate?Thank you, Amir!
I'm just posting to add my voice to the chorus of plurkers who hate this "feature." It's annoying in the extreme, makes Plurk less useful at work, and reduces the control I have over the experience.
I love Plurk, and I look forward to seeing this resolved.
I’m frustrated.

Inappropriate?I agree with AZJazzyJ
Glad to see your devotion to Amix and looking forward to a fix, for a permenant on/off of the sound. If not, at least to remove it all together?
Feel free to have a poll running somewhere but I would think most users prefer not to have a constant reminder such as this. Turst me, we're already hooked in and looking for the update in posts / replies ;)

I’m waiting

Inappropriate?This is now fixed:
- The muting is permanent
- The sound icon is always shown
Regards,
Amir
The company says
this answers the question
-
Inappropriate? This is certainly NOT fixed. The sound continues to reactivate itself on my machine even when I am not here to refresh or look at someone else's profile or any of the other known triggers.
I cannot think up even the remotest possible reason why anyone thought this was a wizbang cool idea or even necessary. Half of us Plurk at work--nothing like this rapid-fire gong all through the day to win friends and influence people!
I’m frustrated

Be sure to shift-reload your static files.
Regards,
Amir -
Inappropriate?thanks Amir. It looks like it may have taken a while to propagate to the servers but is now working for me. I can reload the page, log off, and visit another profile and when I return the system remembers the state of sound notifications.
Thanks for the quick response and action. And thanks for adding the "f" in shift-reload your static files, I wasn't sure what to do without the "f" in there. :-)
I’m felling pretty good right now, thanks for asking
-
Inappropriate?works for me! thanks so much.
