Why can't I follow new people?
When I click on 'Follow _____'s Plurks' under the Fan heading in a new plurker's profile page, an animated 'counter-clockwise circle' icon appears. But your server doesn't process the request. I can go away and leave it for 30 min's and the stupid thing is still spinning. I can reboot the browser and/or my system and the problem is still the same. The only way I can follow new people is if they send me a friend request. I've plurked an inquiry about this twice, and both times the replies indicated that other people don't have this problem. Which is very suspicious, since it didn't start happening until Amir took exception to my comments in the Eliminate Karma thread.

Inappropriate? It would help everyone if you tone down your language here, greg. The last sentence is totally unnecessary.
Seems like two or three people had reported similar problem recently. We will look into it. -
Inappropriate?still broken
-
Inappropriate?I'm having this problem as well. - Didn't see this thread before I posted mine http://getsatisfaction.com/plurk/topi...
Greg, I really doubt that this is some kind of "targeted" attack towards you for not liking Karma. I like Karma (but don't care if it's up or down), and I'm having this issue as well. Other friends of mine appear to be working just fine.
I’m sad

As long as the developers do a poor job of communication about problems and inquiries there will be suspicion; that being said, they do appear to be making a somewhat better effort lately. -
Inappropriate?problem appears fixed. thank you.

Inappropriate? For the forum's record, explanation was here:

Inappropriate? This problem has reappeared. Be advised that it can have nothing to do with your previous explanation, since I've never been anywhere near the original 200 limit of fans, much less the newer 500 limit.
-
Inappropriate?still broken. still no response from the A-Team to my problem report, either here on getSatisfaction or on Plurk. I guess I spoke too soon when I said that they're doing a better job at communicating.
-
Inappropriate? The reason why you can't follow more people is that you can maximally follow 500 people currently (and you do that now).
My suggestion is to clean up in the people you are following.

this solves the problem

Inappropriate?Amir: I haven't reached that limit, despite your claim to the contrary. According to your stats on my timeline page, I currently have 217 friends and 116 fans. My suggestion is that you figure out what's going on. And what's with the arbitrary limit anyways? Like your karma penalties, it seems like a reason for people to *not* use Plurk.
-
Inappropriate?Greg, 116 represents the # of people following you. That number is different than the # of people you are following. Can you verify with us the number of people you are following? (you are a fan of them).
The limit is set up to counter the behavior of massive follow spam. Less than 1% of our users hit this limit and out of that 1%, more than half of them are dummy accounts or spammers set out to follow as many people as possible in hoping these same people will follow them back. It degrades user experience for many users and put unnecessary stress on our servers. Of course, there are legitimate users like you who want to follow more than the limit and our goal is to let such users follow as many plurkers as they want, and as such we will revise this limit as we grow and performance stabilize.
Sorry for the inconvenience. -
Inappropriate?Alvin: Thanks for the clarification. I never took any notice of 'My Friends' before other than to accept requests and set up cliques, since I always interpreted the numbers on my timeline to reflect my current number of friends and people that I was following. So here are the current stats. Mutual Friends 204, People I Follow 501, My Fans 146. So, here's my next question... from the beginning, Plurk has suggested that we limit our number of friends. But since it appears from this that the number of friends doesn't impact on the '500' limit, aren't you giving users a reason to 'friend' everybdy instead of 'fanning' them?
